“I am Death.”
And what was your position with Sophie Anne? ”I was a procurer.”
Tara, is Jason a telepath? “Jason barely knows what he’s thinking.”
Arlene, what is your problem? “Right now I’m a hostess, waitress, bartender, busboy because everybody comes to work whenever they fucking feel like it or ends up dead.”
Melinda, what do you really think about your sons? “These dogs plump up nice.”
Destiny, can you share a life lesson with us? “It’s a hell I’ll never get out of alive.”
Your majesty, we don’t mean to intrude on your dinner. ”Please join us?”
With these words, Russell Edington looks straight into the camera inviting you to take part in Destiny’s rape and murder. Alan Ball is using filming techniques pioneered by Alfred Hitchcock in Frenzy to make the audience morally complicit in the violation of Destiny’s body and her death because all that was done to her by Russell, Lorena, and Bill was presented for your entertainment.

When I heard him say that I shouted “Renee!!!” lol,
I thought it was also interesting the dream sequence with sookie and eric where he’s floating outside her window and the first thing she says is “Jesus Christ.”
Yes, and Eric’s position floating outside Sookie’s window with his feet and hands demurely crossed was much more Christ like than Eric like. LOL!
It was a huge contrast to RE’s black mass at LPs.
It is not the first time the show has applied the allegory of Christ to Eric. After the bomb went off at Godric’s house in Dallas, Eric is lying on top of Sookie with his arms spread in a Christ-like pose.
Sookie said beans and rice.
Yes! ROTLF! Actually, I think it’s ‘cheese and rice’ or ‘cheese and fries.’
The first time around though, it definitely sounded like Jesus Christ, which I’m sure was the intention.
Bill’s admission that he has been procuring, pandering, and pimping for QSA for the past thirty-five years adds to the ever growing evidence for Sunny’s human trafficking theory.
I also found the Post-Mortem clip about the shadow vampire government, “The Authority”, very intriguing.
Talbot’s treatment of Tara also spoke volumes.
I love it .
Bill telling Sookie that he made love to Lornea and that they F***.He was with her .
Alcide telling Sookie the man she love didn’t Exist
Alcide calling her door mat .How many relationship she been in.Janice talking about ALCIDE and Debbie how bad it was to be in a relationship jsut to feel alive .
I love Alcide poor baby geting his A** kick by a whole bar were on V.
( My own thoughs:: Now lets see here Bill just called and said he doesn’t want you Plus had sex with Lornea
Sookie has hot were ALCIDE no shirt on and sating on the bed .Sookie go for it .)
.Eric day dreaming about Sookie how she could smell his memories from a time when he was human .She could things ( what thing are yet to come that Sookie can do.)that kiss was hot .Now in Eric day dream he could see Alcide apt.,the robe and tissuse on the bed .
Eric saving Laffy ,Showing he will take care of Laffy
Love Laffy smile befor he got in the car(Frist time any one take care of him ) Eric is telling him how to sell
I also laughed HARD at Alcide’s comment that Sookie loves a man who doesn’t exist. (As in, whatever persona Bill put on for her.)
This more and more reminds me of one of German Friedrich Schillers famous literary works, “Kabale und Liebe” (“Intrigue and Love” in English), where a young noble man “falls in love” with a girl who is not of noble birth. The “love” he feels for her is just a construct of his own mind, though. Just the same as Bill is a self-loathing vampire, he is a self-loathing noble who despises court for its hedonism and rejects the advances of and demonizes a good-hearted court woman, while he projects all positive aspects of life onto the third estate. He doesn’t actually listen to Luise, the woman he pretends to love, he only attributes to her everything that he wants in a perfect woman instead of seeing her as an individual who also exists as an individual personality outside of the constraints of social standings. He never realizes that he treats non-nobles like unemancipated children who supposedly cannot fend for themselves and keeps secrets from Luise in order not to offend the simple mindset he believes she must have. The same as Bill sees Sookie as a stereotypical “perfect” Southern Belle, a damsel in distress, the ideal of womanhood of when he was still human, an ideal that society taught him to admire, even though this is not at all who Sookie is.
Yes! Alcide’s comment about loving a man who only exists in your head and then Janice’s talk about settling for someone who makes you feel alive. ROTFL! Bill does sound like the character you describe in “Intrigue and Love.”
wow..kabale and liebe, yes this is an interesting paralell. You have this role model of woman in nearly every novel wirtten by Schiller. it is even more intriguing to compare it with die räuber (the thives?): In this novel we also get to know a young seemingly “good” man named Karl. When his unloved but highly intelligent brother Franz makes their father believe that the wild student Karl became an outlaw the father disowns his favorite son. Karl does not clarify the whole thing although this would be rather easy. Instead of that he really becomes an outlaw, the master of some cruel merc and petty criminals. He leaves his fiancée who fiercly loves him and who sacrifies herself in the end for him because she is “unable to live without him” in the house of his dangerous brother.
Karl has a lot in common with Bill: Both have a real rage problem and both love to blame others for their own mistakes. Bill was turned against his will and Karl was the victim of an intrigue but the following mistakes were committed willingly by themselves. The women, Sookie and Amelia, were both highly idealised by their lovers but their real needs were always neglected.
I don´t like Schiller very much nor do I like the literature of Sturm und Drang
Hey, can one of you ladies tell us what the wolf pack’s line is before they drink RE’s blood? His German is subtitled, but theirs isn’t.
I have to wait until they post the episode online. But I will look after it when I finally will see the episode.
Thanks Sarah!
there are already links available but the video was removed “due to infringement” thus I hope that they soon will post another link. I am dying to hear Eric speak German again. His accent is pretty hot
Another question: Do you guys go to the Bl´s sides in order to discuss with the people? I have a discussion at the nest about the Lorena abuse thing and they are a not that fair-minded. I love to discuss different opinions but getting crucified like that is bad..
Hey Sarah,
I know your plight of not getting HBO here in Germany, so if you give me your email addy I can give you fool proof info on how to watch the episodes as soon as they’re leaked XD
oh please.surf the channel was a dead end today
My e mail:
sarah.s89@gmx.de
Thank you a lot!
They say: “Ja, Meister!” = “Yes, master!”
Thanks, Melody! I was wondering if they were addressing RE as a political or religious figure. Can you tell?
Hm, let me think this out thoroughly.
“Meister” is an antiquated word that is associated with higher social or economical rank as in servant vs. master or student vs. master, so to me the English equivalent seems to mean just the same. As something that is almost obsolete, is totally Germanic and emphasizes another’s superiority, in that context it immediately rang the Third Reich bell to me, even if we hadn’t been shown Eric’s flashback. Then again, as a German I’ve been sensibilized to this all my life and as a non-full-white German even more, of course.
So from the top of my head I’d say political, not religious, but it’s also a word that I’ve heard in retellings in folklore/fairy tales, Germanic mythology, etc. pp. So like Eric pointed out that this pack is much older than the Nazi party, just as Sookie has been conditioned to relate runes with National-”Socialism” (Sorry, that just has to go into quotation marks XD), I have been conditioned to associate archaic German terms with 1933-45, even though they of course were only misused by the Nazis.
A “Meister” in a folktale is usually a… you’ll love this… magician / equivalent to a male witch (e.g. there’s the term “Hexenmeister”, which literally means “witch master”.)
a little off-topic, I love the accents of the cast while they speak German, it sounds as if they’re in turmoil trying to get the hard connections of syllables out, lol.
Perfect on so many levels! Thanks for taking the time to explain it, Melody.
We know RE is a trickster figure. I wonder if he is into magic, too.
little addition: There is a famous poem from Celan about the shoa and the life in a KZ with the famous and often quoted line: Death is a master from Germany (Der Tod ist ein Meister aus Deutschland)
http://www.celan-projekt.de/ (english version)
I also made the connection to the Third Reich. My second association has been to medival society and the relationship between master and servant or the structure of the gild. Here we have the link to Augsburg which was an economic megacity in the middle ages during the Fugger era.
“Meister” is today used in two ways:
(1) If you make a formation in a handcraft your first “grade” is “assistant”. When you are assistant you are allowed to earn your money with this handcraft. If you want to open your own business and to instruct assistants in spe you have to make your master grade.
(2) If you can you do something really good that is also considered beeing valuable (painting, doing maths..) you are refered as a master in doing that certain thing. “she is a master in painting”
That actually happens to be one of my absolute favourite poems; you can feel the desperation and how haunted Celan was through the words.
Oh, hold it: http://www.celan-projekt.de/todesfuge-englisch.html (easier to get to this way)
This poem fits it with where RE’s storyline seems to be going. Thanks for bringing it up. I am particularly struck by the phrase ‘black milk,’ which is an oxymoron referring to life in a concentration camp since life is good but that life is hell.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todesfuge
It reminds me of the birdsmilk and black blood in Sylvia Plath’s poem ‘Maenad.’ Blood is obviously life, but the maenad’s black blood, while sustaining her, is death to others.
http://www.ancientpythoness.com/2010/05/18/missing-link-discovered/
Renée, I’d also like to point out the euphemism in Death Fugue that fits pretty well with the clouded presentations/perceptions of anyone and anything in TB.
Both of the women in the poem most probably have the same colouring of hair, ASHblond (in German “ASCHblond”; “Asche” = “ash”), what I have always perceived as the most common natural hair colour among full ethnic Germans, not the light blond shade of the “Aryan” stereotype.
The non-Jewish woman Margarete’s blond hair is given the description “golden”. What is seen as “true” German and “ideal” is described in all its glory with a term that has positive and epic connotations, even though the woman probably doesn’t have “golden” hair, but simply ashblond. The Jewish German woman Shulamith has the same hair colouring, but the less beautiful and desirable term “ashen” is used for her hair instead of “golden”. The term “ash” fits her even better because she is set to die and then be cremated, reduced to ash in the wind.
The “golden” hair vs. the actual reality of what the colour looks like if you strip away ideology and WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE also stands for the population who looked away / ignored the disappearance of people as if nothing happened / didn’t want to face reality vs. what was actually happening.
It’s the same with Bill vs. FM, they’re both the same, just that one of them is presented much more “positively” than the other. One cannot truly admit his true personality while the other is fully aware of it.
I re-watched the episode last night, and I was struck by Alcide’s knowledge of RE only as an antiques dealer. Thinking of his Third Reich associations, RE must have had access to quite the treasure trove of seized jewelry, furniture and art.
We all know that the Nazis looted their way across Europe, and as a powerful vampire Russell would have been able to glamour (or blackmail, if he wanted to play the game in a “human” fashion) his way into posession of THE MOST sought after pieces – how could anyone stop him?
Then I began to consider Russell’s long-term goals for the vampire race, and began to wonder if Hitler may have struck a deal with “the devil”. What if Russell was the mastermind behind Hitler’s whole rise to power? He was known to have an interest in the occult, and as noted elsewhere in this thread – it makes me think of Faust!
Russell could have very well played the Nazi party as pawns in his own chess game to obliterate humanity one ethnic group at a time. I know that probably seems out there, but I think Russell has survived for 2800 years by using whatever ruling party was ahead as his own marionette!
Beautiful! Perfect!
Skarlove, I love this. It makes perfect sense and the postmortem on Hitler’s Werewolves proves you out. RE has controlled the weres ‘down through the ages’ and he would only put them at the disposal of a ruler who could give him something in return. I should think Hitler gave RE carte blance to loot the treasure and art works himself with no one to say him nay. Obviously, RE has used his vampirism and control of the wolves to amass an obscene fortune for himself.
I agree completely with MC, Skarlov. You are brilliant to figure this out!
I have to say that I am really surprised that it looks like AB is going to lay the condition of the world at the feet of a global vampire conspiracy and the horrors of the Nazi’s at Russell’s. Great drama, but it hurts the social commentary by taking away moral agency.
I’m not familiar with “Die Räuber”, but yes, this Karl does sound like Bill!
“I don´t like Schiller very much nor do I like the literature of Sturm und Drang
”
HEY THERE! =D
In school, I had to suffer through Wilhelm Tell, Maria Stuart and as the final undeserved punishment Kabale und Liebe as one of the two main works for the German exam during Abitur. On the other hand, we only read one longer work by Goethe (I know he’s categorized as SuD as well, but I vastly prefer him and his work is just not as cookie cutter and mechanical as Schiller’s; read one of his plays, and you’ve practically read them all), and that wasn’t even on the curriculum, we just went through it because our teacher was shocked when we told him we knew only a few of his poems.
I also love Goethe, he only did very few pieces of SuD (mostly poems), he is more a writer of classic. You have to read Faust, it is Goethe at his best and really deserves all the glory it gets. Or if you prefer more modern literature try the Manns, Tucholsky or Kafka. You need good German literature to survive the Schiller shock
Faust Part I was the one we read back then and it’s really a masterpiece! I also looooooooooove Kafka *high five of socially awkward fail to him, haha*
The Schiller shock was rivaled by my other exam reading though… Effi Briest. *traumatized*
yes, Effie was Madam Bovary for the poor
Good, old Fontane managed to make even adultery boring.
But Kafka simply is a genius. I wonder if he can be called a German writer , maybe German speaking writer was the better term. If you liked Kafka, you have to love Bulgakow who is my favorite author. Buy the Master and Margarita and enjoy!
Celan is also wunderful. have you read his letter with Ingeborg Bachmann?
No, I haven’t @ Celan. But I certainly shall!
I probably sound like a douche now, but I had never heard of Bulgakow ._.
My favourite writer is Amélie Nothomb, who also has this “undefinably socially awkward main characters” aspect that I love about Kafka. (Shame that I don’t speak French, though.)
As far as I know, Kafka called himself German, so he is a German writer to me ^^ (I just read “Deutschland Schwarz weiß” by Noah Sow and have now fully understood anyone is what he decides to be… Okay, I always thought like that, but before I somehow never got around to believing I had the right for myself. Now I do =D /long story)
Melody, the different treatment of the women’s hair correlates to TB perfectly. Do you know if the name “Shulamith” is an allusion to the Shulammite woman in the Song of Solomon?
Nevermind. Prof. Wikipedia says that it is and that Margarete alludes to Faust’s love.
One of my favorite things about the episode was Alcide saying that
Pam what she said about beening the queen setting him up on the phone .
Later went Eric comes with the magister Pam said it was Bill, then Eric said Bill had missing .They could NOT said it was the queen. Eric knew when Pam said it was Bill…..Bill was the only who knew beside PAM,Laffy he was selling V….When Bill told Russell Eric was selling V for the queen.MPOV is Russell made sure Magister knew that Eric was selling
Eric was trying to save his child ,buy some time .Poor baby
I agree that the magister’s raid was prompted by a phone call from RE.
me too! gosh, im glad to know people on the same page..lol
I am wondering if the Magister and Russell are not in together
With the spoilers I saw this I think is Magister and Russell are in together
I’ve been staying away from spoilers, so I couldn’t say. Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves, though. I don’t mind at all.
I have watch 2 season of goodie to shoe Bill
This season his ture colors or coming out some .
The Bill lovers will still he doing ever thing for Sookie
We will not get all of Bill storie this season are even next .Only at the end of Ture Blood .But it feels so good to see some of it come out
We are geting to more of Eric ture colors
I know you look for details like that, and though I’m not totally sure because I can’t see the image clear, is there an owl with the wings on fire on Sookie’s top when she’s undercover? Could it be related to Minerva/ Athena?
All I can make out on her top are flames. If it’s a bird design, I would think it’s a firebird.
Interestingly, Firebird is a Slavic fairytale:
A typical role of the Firebird in fairy tales is as an object of a difficult quest. The quest is usually initiated by finding a lost tail feather, at which point the hero sets out to find and capture the live bird, sometimes of his own accord, but usually on the bidding of a father or king. The Firebird is a marvel, highly coveted, but the hero, initially charmed by the wonder of the feather, eventually blames it for his troubles.
That is interesting. I was just connecting it with the phoenix. I’m not sure that Sookie is wearing a firebird, but Laffy was definitely was in the pilot episode.
Speaking of clothes, Bill’s hooker was dressed remarkably like Yvatta for her interview with the leopard jacket under a bra top and a chain.
It’s an eagle, whith the wings on fire. I’ve seen it clear now.
I wonder if that would qualify as a firebird?
On the other hand a lot of the guys have had eagles on their ratty old shirts. I think Jason was the last one.
And just the other day I was wondering what Bill’s special talent was….
pimping! What I did notice was when RE asked what everyone was in the mood for, he mentioned “something ethnic”. To me, that points to Sunny’s theory on human trafficking.
How could we have missed that one? ROTFL!
It was pretty much in your face, wasn’t it? RE made it plain that the job of a ‘procurer’ is to supply the monarch-or whoever employs the procurer- with blood/sex slaves. It is deeply disturbing and I can’t understand how anyone can could ever look past this little fact about Bill. He’s becoming more deeply evil with each episode, no matter the emo and ‘tortured’ face he likes to put on.
But, but, but…he had to do it and he picked someone who was’t leaving behind a family who would grieve (or pursue her disappearance.)
but but but generic BillBanger, LOL, he was also doing it for QSA for 35 years. He’s just now growing a conscience? Nope. Bill is so delusional that he puts on an act even to himself. He ENJOYS the evil things he does but he can’t admit that to himself. He also enjoys thinking of himself as the noble victim and acts accordingly, complete with the dramatic hesitations and emo facial expressions, even if it’s only for his own benefit.
I LOVE YA’LL BOTH! this change was soooo funny!
*exchange
Wonder how RE will take FM report and the dossier he found in the secret hiddy-hole at Bill’s? Don’t think he’ll buy the “I was on sabbatical” excuse.
Mott’s going to spill the beans about Sookie being a telepath real soon.
No, I don’t think so. He says in ep 5 ‘so Bill Compton has been lying to me’ and informs FM he is sending him to ‘procure’ Sookie Stackhouse. Bill tries to act so smooth and sophisticated with RE, but he’s really quite stupid. He just assumed RE would take his word and not do any investigating on his own. KNOWING he had a file in his house for any enterprising vamp PI to find!
What reason could Mott have for not blabbing as soon as he sees RE? The only thing I can think of is that their meeting is delayed.
I think he does blab as soon as he sees RE. RE is sitting there reading Bill’s file on Sookie as they speak. RE was gone when FM and Tara came in, off to procure and murder the stripper–while RE takes a side trip to the Black Mass lol–and he still has blood on his mouth when he meets with FM.
lol…the black mass…celebrated in German.
My thoughts on the E/S moment. I think we entered the shared dream through Sookie and exited through Eric. Eric looked quite disturbed by it.
Totally agree, Osterby. I think Eric was poking around in her dreams, hence the accuracy of the robe and the setting, and I think near the end there he took control. I think Sookie DOES intuit his memories.
I agree that Sookie was ‘smelling his memories.’ That’s going to be fun. It sounds like she’s going to be able to do more, too.
Did you notice that they switcher Eric’s throne again?
This one had two little carved wings that appeared right over his shoulders. LOL! Too cute!
Haha, what’s up with the throne switching?
Did you notice the time glitch?
But, funnily enough, I think I caught other glitches but I’m going to have to watch again to make sure. I think this means that the ‘pov switching’/struggling of influences is accelerating to the point that it switches back and forth within an episode itself. We had an indication of that in “It Hurts Me Too” which was 99% from Bill, but the twisty rape scene? Bill never would have shown us that.
Haha, what’s up with the throne switching?
Lol, I think I answered my own question and didn’t know it. The throne switching is a clue to the switching pov’s.
Missed it. What was the time glitch?
They’re all at lunch celebrating Bud’s retirement and the next thing you know it’s nighttime and everyone is still at Merlottes. What, Andy and Kenya and Kevin didn’t have any ‘cop’ things that needed doing? There’s a murdered corpse in the morgue, is there not? And Jason and Hoyt didn’t have to go back to work?
Good catch! This fits the same pattern as the previous one.
3.02 Andy takes Jason for 2nd lunch but the next scene is Merlotte’s crew prepping to open. Andy and Jason stay at Merlotte’s until after dark.
3.04 Jason says his crew has done a hard days work, but Arlene says it’s only lunch time. Andy and Jason stay at Merlotte’s until after dark.
In both cases Andy and Jason perceive the time to be much later than the Merlotte’s workers and end up spending all day there.
So Enjoying noticed the clock said 4:45 when Arlene said it was lunch; ergo Andy and Jason are right about the time and it’s later than Terry and Arlene (and Sookie) realize. Is this alluding to time being later for Arlene and Terry than they think?
OK, so I noticed another ‘glitch’. Lafayette can’t get hold of Tara and he’s not the least bit concerned? Knowing she’s suicidal? Illogical or cold emotional responses are definitely a huge clue to Bill’s pov, so I think that indeed 9 Crimes was mish-mash of Bill/Eric pov’s and why I think much of the epi felt ‘hollow’ for lack of a better word, with a couple of notable exceptions like the E/S shared dream. It certainly did not have the emotional impact of Beautifully Broken.
I know what you’re saying, but I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or just due to expediency. The other ones where real WTF moments where it was obvious the narrative was not complete. This isn’t a whole in the story, and it is something that only obsessed people like us would pick up on. ROTFL!
This makes me want to go back to re-watch season 1, when Bill intros Sookie to Eric. What, I wonder could Sookie have said to Eric to make him so interested in her?
Just like Jason’s ‘shared memory’ with Bill, indicating that he was supplying the Ratts with V. When Bill remembered his Civil War days, Jason tapped into it. He was the wounded kid on the battle field screaming at the end, and Bill’s memory ended in Jason’s head.
I think the daydream swiched from Sookie’s POV to Eric’s when the tissues started changing position.
What was Jason’s “shared memory” with Bill?
When Bill was remembering his Civil War experience and taking about the wounded Bellefleur kid, Jason was listening and high on V. When Bill came to the end of his memory, Bellefluer turned his head and started screming and it was Jason on the battlefield. Then the memory ended in present day Jason’s eyes. In the commentary, the writer and director talked about Jason being in Bill’s memory as a side effect of the V. They specifically said that he was in Bill’s memory, not that he was hallucinating.
Thanks, Renee! I don’t have the first season on DVD and it was so long ago that I’ve forgotten about that scene.
It looked to me that Sookie’s ability to smell Eric’s memories took him for a loop. Almost like he was taken aback.
Agree again, Osterby.
I thought Jason got his V from Laffy, who got it from Eddie? Which would indicate to me that Bill is Eddie’s maker.
I have thought Eddie was Bill’s child for a while. It sort of fits Bill’s not telling Jessica anything about how to be a vampire. Interesting that according to the magisters records, Bill was never a maker. His punishment was not 5 years chained in silver, but to make a child instead.
Brilliant! This would fit so well with Bill fathering an illegitimate child and show that blood is not destiny, the same Sam’s storyline is.
Kudos to you, Osterby!
I’m guessing Laffy got into the trade through the Ratts. That’s not a business you just jump into blind. He probably learned how to find vamps willing to sell their blood. What do you want to bet that Bill was doing it for SA?
I’d be willing to bet that some of his “procurements” were offered V as an inducement to join the whatever. His blood or QSA’s. Maybe thats how he knew QSA was behind the V selling in LA.
I think you’re exactly right.
I also want to say, our boy Bill is either A LOT smarter than he has ever been depicted on the show or has inside info that we’ve never been privy to for him to connect SA to the V dealing. He (the writers) really showed his hand with that bomb.
I mentioned a long time ago over on Sunny’s blog that Bill was ‘more in the know’ than we were being shown. The conversation was that Bill didn’t have a clue as to what Sookie was when he moved back to BT. I disagreed and said that Bill knew exactly what Sookie was.
You were right that Bill knew what Sookie was when he met her. FM proved that, and I know we’ve always suspected that what we saw of Bill was just the tip of the iceberg, but this is really the first time we have something from his own lips to prove it.
Perhaps part of his mission was to find out if Sookie could read vampire minds as well as human minds.
I think he’s part of the ‘shadow government’ which is not only controlling vamp politics but human as well. According to the ‘informer’ they engineered the financial crisis. If Bill is a henchman/assassin/operative of the shadow gov’t he’s working for the most powerful and evil force on earth. Which of course, makes him a formidable opponent for Eric.
But is the informer reliable or is he a conspiracy nut? I really don’t want to see TB turn into the X-Files.
I feel the same way as you. That post mortem was really telling.
But is the informer reliable or is he a conspiracy nut? I really don’t want to see TB turn into the X-Files.
To me, he seemed in fear of his life and doing the only thing he knew to do to save himself.
Read this–even though the concept has been latched onto by fringe conspiracists of every stripe, a shadow gov’t is really not that far-fetched.
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8864
Sunny, you’re link’s not working for me.
I don’t doubt that The Authority is the organization over the AVL and the monarchies, but I do question the idea that they control everything in the human and vampire worlds.
Duh. Just noticed I repeated what said. Sorry, missed that post before I typed.
Reply to Renee re: Bill offering V to procurements out of order. Sorry again.
Hey bobsgran, you brought up the idea that Bill didn’t know whether Sookie could read his mind. That’s an important consideration. Bill could have been a good choice for SA to send because of his ability to deceive himself.
Sookie may now stard some new things cause of Eric blood
Thing she could not do befor
Sookie when she hit Coot-er with her hand next Ture Blood
She pick want Coot-er thinking
Eric day dream is going be some else she can do pick up memories
I found it interesting that FM misses sunshine and fruit. He strikes me as a bit twisted. I wondr if he’s a freelancer. Works for both QSA and RE…
FM is a complete obsessive nutter. Essentially FM is Bill, stripped of pretense.
I find I like FM better than I ever liked Bill. Even if he (FM) is a scoundrel. Maybe it’s the upfront attitude and acceptance of what he is.
I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT FM!
THANK YOU!
I wanna know what’s up between Mott and Talbot.
I the look on Talbot’s face when he talks about Tara as if she were livestock is priceless, and then when she looks over to Mott for comfort he winks at her. The scene is high comedy, but the reality is chilling.
Exactly. He’s honest and openly admits to being nothing but opportunistic. FM honesty > WTC bigotry
Since Bill goes both ways, I think that Mott does or will, too.
Some ask was there any thing that CH wrote in any book that hint if Bill was gay .
DUD page 170 and 171
Bill has a friend with him and comes in the bar with him
Harlen Ive from Minnepolis,he on vacation
I wrote over at SVB that I think the ‘v’ Laffy is selling is fake. A combination of ecstasy and viagra emulsed in a red liquid, possibly a liquid codeine. Eric hid the real v in Fangtasia.
I noticed that the vial that Laffy held up or Calvin was very transparent.
Yes it was did not look like blood
ROTFL! This would be so perfect, especially if SA is using the V to identify werewitches and fairies.
No wonder she’s in such a grouchy mood!
I think they gave us the recipe for V in the commentaries.
•Vampire blood is like a combination of ecstasy, Viagra and crystal meth
Interesting that Hotshot was busted as a meth lab.
Whoa!
I’m thinking that Hotshot was already ‘in the loop’ so to speak.
Which makes it all the more interesting that Jason becomes a were-panther, who has a thing for the ‘dumber than a box of hair’ niece of the meth makers….dirt devil, indeed.
PROOF POSITIVE RIGHT THERE! I screamed!
that whole last scene was soooo disturbing too…
blood pouring out of the limo.
What I found striking as well was how Bill justified it by picking a stipper with no family….wtf?
I have an episode 3×04 recap up btw but I really can’t wait to do a blog about Bill and/or the rest of the season now.
Bill’s first thought was probably that she wouldn’t be reported missing for a while without family connections.
That’s fast work on your recap, TTB! I’m heading over now to check it out!
thank you but I try to stay general and to the main theme when I write a recap…the real theorizing will begin later this week but I hope you and everybody else like it anyhow : )
Lots of jealous going on
Jason over Kitch
Arlene over Jessica
Holt over Jessica
Sookie over Lorena
Lorena over Sookie
Alcida over Debbie
Debbie over Sookie
Coot-er over Debbie
Kenya over Andy
Jason over Andy
Franklin over Jason
oh yes…
desperation, jealousy, loneliness
Good observation!
I got such a kick out of Kenya this episode.
Pig!
poor kenya..thats all i could really think…she did deserve the promotion
Does this confirm Jason’s glyph exam referring to Andy as the pig?
Hmmm…that’s an interesting idea!
When the exam refers to Daphne she is MA pig/deer. Could the references to the pig and his/her lies be referring to Andy/Jason’s lies about Eggs murder/shooting?
Works both ways, which makes me say yes.
Yes… Jealousy is the spark to most problems. It is no surprise that AB puts so much emphasis on it.
It was very interesting about Franklin jealousy over Jason, as it was because Tara liked Jason and Franklin liked Tara (in his own way, lol). And his behaviour opens eyes to the behaviour of Bill to Sookie.
And his behaviour opens eyes to the behaviour of Bill to Sookie.
You would hope. Sigh.
So…what were the 9 crimes?
I just think its the title of the feature song…that’s all…
Idk if there was literally 9 crimes…
I think people should pay more attention to the lyrics
in the song rather than the title
Yes there was more then 9
I found an interesting review of 9 crimes. It indentifies the 9 crimes as acts of love and sacrifice.

9. Bill killing the girl
Thats Bill,Lorena and Russell killing the girl
10 Franklin kidnapping Tara
Is it a crime for a vampire to give away their own blood?
What did the Magister say about the Blood at the bar bar with the queen and Eric
So you’re thinking that vampire religion has the force of law behind it?
Yes I do, to give away the blood to were would be a crime
I think Vampire Religion and there law are about the same
Could there be a Reformation brewing in vampire ranks. I think we need to focus on that postmortem more.
@jayetea- It isn’t just the suit and shirt that ate the same. The hair cut and style are the same. Allowing for the different texture. Wasn’t Eric’s hair very dark at the beginning of S3?
*are* the same
I think he’s Eric brother
Russell turn him
Sir William Compton was Henry VIII’s procurer, so I think SA represents Henry, and as such, the Reformation or, at least the Church of England. I think her last name, Leclerq, which means priest and her disregard for the sacredness of the blood, the Eucharistic, point to this, along with her unwillingness to follow the rules of a higher authority, even as she expects her subjects to follow hers.
Oooh, I like this idea of a vampire Reformation. They surely need one, they’re all living under an Evil Empire with no choices–it’s either obey or die.
So SA & RE = Henry VIII & Martin Luther?
Yes I think befor the Ture Blood end this will come about
Not this season ,or the next .May be 5 season
That may be the Vampire take over but in a differant way
I’ve been thinking this through, and I think it fits.
SA defying ‘The Authority’ by selling her blood for cash & using it to track other part fairies to make turn into her children corresponds to Henry VIII breaking with Rome due to his desire for a male heir and benefiting financially from the dissolution of the monasteries.
Luther became extremely antisemetic to the point of advocating Jewish homes be destroyed and bank accounts confiscated. This not only fits in with RE’s involvement with the Nazi’s, but with the upcoming storyline that I’m predicting about RE wanting to exterminate Hallow’s werewitches, another targeted minority group.
I commented about this a little on SVB’s blog on the home page. I thought it was interesting that Mr. Petrov in the Postmortem video (who is wearing Eric’s exact gray suit w/black shirt from season 2) says that others view him as a rogue, but he prefers to think of himself as enlightened. I remember in the books at least one person referring to Eric as a rogue. Enlightenment on TB makes me think of Godric who is/was Eric’s maker. To my mind, an enlightened rogue could be a Christ figure.
Or maybe, TB meant absolutely nothing by that guy wearing Eric’s exact same suit and it’s just sloppiness and/or coincidence.
Also kudos to all of you who saw that human trafficking theme early on. It seems quite obvious now.
I was just reading SVB’s post and all the comments.
http://www.sookieverseblog.com/2010/07/12/9-crimes-postmortem/
All the points you raise are very interesting. I’m just not sure what to make of it all, yet. If Eric is the Christ figure it looks like he’s going to have to take down the papacy before being enthroned as Christ the King. That is a much much bigger story arch than I had ever considered for TB.
Sunny was the one who spotted the sex trafficking theme early, well before publishing this post.
http://sunnynala.wordpress.com/2010/05/11/human-trafficking
Hi Renee,
I don’t know what to make of it either. I don’t mean to say that TB is necessarily trying to make Eric a Christ figure in any literal way. Enlightenment certainly doesn’t have to refer to Christ himself (or Buddha, etc.) The religious imagery with RE and the werepack was very overt, though. I tend to think that AB and the writer’s like to play with religious imagery for fun. Clearly there is pagan imagery in the show as well and they are going to bring in witches, etc.
Jayetea,
TB is drawing from many different traditions and has a number of different allegorical readings. The most comprehensive and detailed seems to me to be the Christian one.
I have long thought the series will end with Eric becoming King of LA and allegorically representing Christ enthroned. I wrote about it in ‘Sookie’s Sojourn.’ With The Authority representing a political and religious superstructure, it’s pretty obvious that it represents the Catholic Church before the Counter-Reformation. In that case, Eric becoming king of LA will just be a stepping stone to assuming ultimate authority.
Wow! Here’s a first for The Ancient Pythoness–a thread with over 100 comments.
Great discussion, ladies!
best true blood blog other than Sunny’s!
Thanks TTB! The level of discourse astounds me. Everyone brings such fascinating ideas to discuss when they come here.
I just love Franklin
He just so much fun to watch
Franklin wants a wife and he pick Tara
After this Tara may not ever pick up another man
I can not help but LOL with Fraklin
Hope they don’t kill him off any time soon
That is exactly how i saw it!
I think that FM is just as bad as Bill but FM doesn’t try to hide who he is from Tara. Atleast he wants to bring her into his world and make a genuine commitment to her, however misguided that may be.
I think FM is great love him ,even if he does bad things
he does not try to hind beening a Vampire like St Bill
He just so cool about it Lol ever Shoe of him
Yes, Mott is Bill without a mask, and all the better for not having one. Those flowers remind me so much of the ones Bill gave to Sookie when he took her to Fangtasia to work for Eric when she thought they were going on a date.
FM likes Tara because she is his ideal for a potential vampire, which is why he wants to turn her.
FM’s obession with Tara and his desire to turn her parallel Lorena’s obsession with Tara and his desire to turn her.
Tara was the first person to surprise or fascinate Franklin, just like Bill was the first person to surprise or fascinate Lorena. Franklin is holding on to their brief attachement just like Lorena is holding on to her supposed “realization” that Bill was some kind of sentimental/honorable gentlemen.
Eric and Sookie parallel part of that equation. Sookie is the only person to surprise or fascinate Eric and he is holding onto the intense times they have spent together. The only difference is Eric would never turn Sookie, bite Sookie, or do anything with Sookie against her will.
It is funny how the supposedly “evil” vampire is the only one showing restraint when he is in the same situation.
Don’t you think think that its Karmic for Tara she has put Sookie down for dating a vampire.Sookie has helped Tara all ways .
Tara will have lots things happen to her same as Sookie
I know lot people do not like the Sam and his family part
but this season is a turth taking the mask off.Sam is geting his real family not the family he dream about
This next one will give us more insight to what going on with Tommy
I feel sorry for him .The kid never got be one .Sam will help him out of the mess he in with Sam Mom and DAD
That was truth
I agree about Tommy. Joe Lee probably put him up to breaking into Merlotte’s or at least taught him how to steal.
He’s in the same boat with his parents that Laffy is with Ruby Jean.
I like sam and tommy. I just find the mom and dad to be totally annoying!
Sam has been tell his self Lies about family
Franklin he is telling his self lies about having a wife ,family
Arlene telling Terry lies about a child
Sookie telling her self lies about Bill
Andy telling lies covering up for Jason
Jason telling a lie to ever one Because he kill Eggs
Jessica lieing about killing the tucker
Bill telling his self lies about ever thing he does
love those comparisons!
Lorena telling herself lies about Bill.
Bill telling himself lies about the reality of sex w/ lorena.
Hmm, just thought about a possible predictor:
1.05-06–Gran is murdered–by Bill?
2.06–Bill murders Chicago couple.
3.05-06–Bill attempts to ‘murder’ Sookie by turning her. This is a consequence of RE finding out about her from FM and planning to ‘procure’ her for himself.
Looks about right to me.
Arlene’s time is running out fast, too. Paraphrasing her, everyone who works at Merlotte’s is either unreliable or dead. The one thing Arlene is not is unreliable.
Yes Arlene time is running out .She may be kill ,cause the wordsshe said is vear telling….
Arlene time PG and may want time shorter then it be Terry baby .But I think she be kill cause she not unreliable .
Now Jessica is dead (that was to easy)
ROTFL! Jessica is dead! That is too funny!
I like that.
It is just as likely as my idea that Eric will save sookie or Sookie will save Eric in episode 8 or 9.
I think Episode 6 is usually the episode that changes things. It is the arc, just like in any movie or theatrical production.
Episode 1.06- was gran’s farewell and the beginning of sookie’s sexual relationship with Bill.
Episode 2.06- was Sookie’s kidnapping, the revelation that Eric is beginning to get serious about sookie and the realization that Bill is not all he seems (to the smart viewer).
Episode 3.06 prediction:
will be the beginning of Sookie’s realization that there is something between her and eric.
Sookie will get into serious danger.
Bill will be totally revealed, atleast to the audience.
Went and rewatch the show and big clock in the back with Andy and Bud the time show 445 and Arlene said it was lunch…Time line is way off .
Oh! I’ll have to watch for that. It is not a continuity error. It is a deliberate pattern that is showing up in the even number episodes. It may mean that the episode is being told from Eric’s POV whereas the odd ones have gaps in the storyline (like how the heck was Bill able to subdue Coot & Gus and free himself) and are from Bill’s POV.
http://www.ancientpythoness.com/2010/07/11/whats-that-you-said-bill/#comment-2189
Plus Kitch at the bar and hes in high school
Hmmm…it looks like 12:20 to me. Apparently we are having the same time discrepancy that is plaguing Merlotte’s. ROTFL!
Relook and its 435 it the big clock in the back of the bar with Andy and Bud
OMG! I’m looking at the clock on the far wall over by the pool table! It says 12:20.
Two different timelines are running concurrently at Merlotte’s.
Time really is running out for Arlene and Terry.
Did you see the big clock in the back?I will re watch for clock by the pool table.
Did hear when Arleen said it lunch time.
Jason crew said what she talking about
I got the dialogue, but I’m looking now for your clock. Will report back.
I see it! Bud and Andy are standing in front of the John Deere logo with a star in the center. The scene is deliberately shot so that you can only see the bottom two points of the star. It looks like a clock stuck at 4:35.
I think it goes with how the whole scene is set up with the retiring Bud at one end of the bar with the ‘clock’ stuck to late afternoon, Jason and his crew in the center, and Kitch and the other hs kids at the opposite end with their clock near noon, and their whole ‘day’ still ahead of them.
Jason wants to focus on Bud’s retirement celebration, but he is continually distracted by the young ones raising a ruckus and Kitch challenging him by his very existence.
It like the three differant time lines.
The beening ……what you do in life
The middle …what you haven’t done in your life
The end ……end of things
Yes, Jason is definitely in a period of transition. Bud is too. Believe it or not, he is the future Jason the say way as Kitch is the past Jason and Eric is the 1,000 year old vampire Jason.
Karl talks about Saturn’s Return in the Arcana, and fits what’s going on with Jason perfectly.
The Saturn Return is an astrological phenomenon that occurs at the ages of 27-30, 58-60, 86-88, etc., coinciding with the time it takes the planet Saturn to make one orbit around the sun. It is believed by astrologers that as Saturn “returns” to the degree in which it occupied at the time of birth—approximately every 29.5 years—a person crosses over a major threshold and into the next stage of life. With the first Saturn Return, a person leaves youth behind and enters adulthood. With the second Return, maturity. And the third and usually final Return, a person enters wise old age.
The first Saturn Return is famous because it represents the first test of character and the structures a person has built their life upon. According to traditions, should these structures be unsound, or if a person is living out of touch with his or her true values, the Saturn Return will be a time of upheaval and limitations as Saturn forces him or her to jettison old concepts and worn out patterns of living. It is not uncommon for relationships and jobs to end during this time of life restructuring and reevaluation.
It’s the big John Deere ‘wheel’ looking clock, right?
http://black-celebration.net/caps/displayimage.php?pid=940850&fullsize=1
Yes, but it does represent a stuck clock.
Great catch on the ‘clock,’ Enjoying! Two sets of eyes see two different things, and in AB’s world, it’s not either or, it’s both and.
Oh. My. GAAWD!
TWO concurrent timelines equal–to me, anyway LOL–proof postive of two concurrent pov’s in this ep!
Even if you don’t count the John Deere logo, there are two time lines running concurrently.
s1 started in the summer. According to Living Dead in Dallas, Bill proposed 43 days after meeting Sookie.
http://www.lovingtruebloodindallas.com/search/label/timeline
That’s not enough time for the temperature to cool down to jacket and coat weather. I thought maybe just the vamps were cold blooded, but the humans are wearing them too. That is, the humans who aren’t still wearing their summer clothes.
Fascinating! I didn’t even notice some were wearing coats, but it IS supposed to be football season as Kitch is ‘about’ to break Jason’s passing record.
I do know this: If it is noon at Merlotte’s, Kitch and the gang should be in school. (we know it’s a workday so it must also be a school day) If it is later in the afternoon, which is the only time it makes sense to have a ‘retirement’ party–then Kitch should be at football practice.
Also, the sun is slanting IN the windows at Merlotte’s, suggesting late afternoon. However, the clock over the bar agrees with Arlene, and as a former waitress, I can tell you that from 4-6 is usually ‘dead’ time at restaurants. Definitely a lunch time crowd–a lunch time crowd caught in a time warp.
If it is later in the afternoon, which is the only time it makes sense to have a ‘retirement’ party
Also, I can’t see Kenya knocking back shots in the middle of the workday.
Yes, I wondered what the teens were doing at Merlotte’s at lunch, too. It seems a bit progressive for BTHS to have an open campus.
The season change is in the books and relates to the alchemy. It is symbolic of where Sookie is in the process. During the black phase (DUD, LDID, CD) when Bill has sway over her, the story is set sometime after the summer solstice, so the days are getting shorter and the darkness is increasing. Between CD and DTTW is Christmas and the winter solstice. With Christ entering the world and Eric entering Sookie’s life in a personal 24/7 way, Sookie begins the overarching white phase with DTTW. This is when Eric’s influence takes over and the sun returns making the days longer and the darkness recede.
In the books Sookie was cold and was thinking about buying early Christmas gifts .She was sad cause she wouldn’t be buying Bill a gift and she was thinking about what gift to get Sam.
Thanks for the book reminder. Sookie switched to her winter uniform. So it does look like TB is trying to run two timelines concurrently because only half of the cast has gotten the memo that it’s the holidays. LOL!
Since Bill got people for the queen
My qustion is did he get Hadley for the queen ,Hadley to him like she knew him and ask about Sookie and grand .
I think that’s a good bet.
I think Bill was following Sookie before Hadley was old enough to be lured into that or to have had a baby. I do not think Hadley is the one that told QSA about Sookie in this case. I think the queen found out about the cousin’s vulnerability (and possible addiction to v) and tried to use to her to get more information about Sookie and maybe her blood tastes good bc she and maybe use her and her son to lure Sookie in if Bill couldn’t close the deal himself.
It is possible that Bill lured Hadley in before Sookie for the queen although I initialy have thought the queen just did it herself or maybe she cast a spell on Hadley or glamoured Hadley (if hadley is more human than fairy).
That file on the Stackhouses looked old. At this point, I’m going with the theory that while Bill & Lorena were living in Caroline’s house, Bill noticed that the Stackhouses were consorting with fairies or had a supernatural streak. If that’s the case, then he took the info about them to SA.
Thats what it looking like ,so queen been sending Bill to get Hadley watch Sookie and Jason .
Can not waite untill Sookie fine that out .Wonder if it be Hadley who tells her
Rene if Arlene time is running out
Wonder who will kill her ?,will be this season? in the parking lot at the bar ?
S1.and S2 both had people in Sam parking lot dead
Sunny and I figured that one out. The who is in the post the details are in the comments
http://www.ancientpythoness.com/2010/06/20/frenzied/
I re-ck this out …..Bill
Thanks ladies! That means a lot, coming from the best conspiracy theorists out there!! My insomnia overtook me last night as this played out in my head – I was pondering major wars throughout history and contemplating Russell’s possible involvement and influence.
AP, you are right about Russell’s ultimate responsibility in mass genocides throughout history washing a bit of the blood from the hands of his human puppets. But only to a point. I think Russell can only manipulate hatred and prejudice that is already in the mindset of the general populace. He doesn’t have the power to create it, only to fan the flames.
Oh indeed. I can see RE as something of a scavenger, swooping in and taking advantage of situation already in progress. Like corporate raiders. It wouldn’t be surprising though if he engineered some of the situations he took advantage of.
Oops, I meant to post that further up in the thread, but I had a bit of technical difficulty with my “reply” button. My apologies!
For sure, MC! I only meant that I doubt he can create hatred out of the blue. Russell sees human (and vampire) weakness and he knows how to play it to his advantage. That’s a true talent.
I understand what you and Sunny are saying, but my issue with moral agency has to do with where this evil starts even more than where it finds willing participants. I’m disappointed that it looks like in TB it starts with supernatural evil agents instead of in the darkness of the human heart.
But evil starting with a ‘supernatural evil agent’ is so very Catholic!
I think Russell has been pulling these strings since way before Catholicism existed. What I find so fascinating about this character is that he could have been involved in the background of every major European conflict since 790 BCE!
I just found this war timeline, and with what limited information we have on Russell’s past, I want to try and figure out which wars would have been worth his time and effort throughout the centuries. WWII was not his first time at the dance.
http://www.timelineindex.com/content/select/1311/912,1385,1311
Good Lord, MC! If I start writing about TB vampires, even a small minority of them, representing the demonic princes and powers that are in control of this world until Eric decides it’s time for the second coming, Lafayette will put me in the room next to Ruby Jean and probably make me spoon my own peas.
LMAO! I know the feeling…lol.
I will take it upon myself to be the pea-spooner ladies! Don’t you worry….I’ll even make sure you’re wearing a bib and have a hefty supply of wet-naps!
Congrats on the 200 mark + the 1000 hit mark! That’s awesome!
Honestly though – I got the impression from the post mortem that this silent vampire supremacy has gone on for a loooong time. I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to imagine someone close to 3000 years old with a human extinction fetish.
I know that as a Druid, RE’s respect for trees and birds would put him at odds with almost the entire human population’s switch from hunters/gatherers to farmers. Sooner or later, overpopulation will be the death of us anyway. We can’t possibly grow enough food for everyone, and it’s killing the planet as we try to sustain the population we currently have. Russell knows that, and I think he’s been trying to thin the herd, and eventually eliminate it completely. I don’t think vampires cast much of a carbon footprint!
One of my favorite books of all time is Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. The sequel – My Ishmael and also his Story of B are phenomenal reading. Humans are really nothing more than mice in a cage. In this case, I think it’s been RE’s cage for over 2500 years.
Oh, wow! This all fits perfectly.
I may have to take you up on that offer to spoon my peas, but whenever you come by, we’ll pull out the Fangtasia calendar and drool over Eric together. K?
It’s a deal! Drool is a prerequisite in that situation, hee hee…..
ROFLMAO!!! I’ll be in the room right nest to yoy….keep your handos of Jesus!!
Hey now! I don’t care what Laffy say. Jeezus, he can rape me anytime. If you want, I’ll send ‘em next door when he done.
AARGH. None of my replies are going where they’re supposed to now! I’m sorry AP – making a mess of your board here today.
No problem. We found you. ;~)
Look like you hit another milestone with 200 comments on this thread, Renee!
Amazing! Y’all have surpassed all of my expectations for TAP. We passed another milestone, too. Yesterday for the first time there were over 1,000 hits.
The story lines are coming together now .By 7 we should all be back in BT ….
Then things are going get heat up for sure
Do so want to see how Bill will lie to Sookie
I could not help Tara because of so many ther
or Bill glamors Tara
Tara not ever going like Bill after this
She did not care him any way .
Tara may never date again
Yes the situation with Bill and Tara is going to be very interesting. It’s similar to the one with Hadley. Can’t wait til it all comes to light.
Tara’s plight casts Hadley in a new light, too. When she said she could never go back, now I think she meant because she was not free to do so, and of course Bill would have understood that. Heck, he was probably the one who delivered Hadley to SA.
She cause she got so much money from grand and couldn’t ever pay her back
What was beening said on the radio about the AVL and vampire right it was on when Alcide was cooking and also with Calvin
With Melinda’s statement, “These dogs plump up nice,” it occurs to me that Tommy and Sam must be the only two dogs in the family, and whatever Joe Lee is into–physical and emotional abuse, pit fighting, pimping, stealing, pedophilia–she is complicit. I wonder if she’s a hawk?
Looks like would be a fast get away for them
[...] it seem to anyone else that what we may have here is two concurrent parallel timelines running? As discussed in my two previous reviews, of Beautifully Broken and It Hurts Me Too, [...]
