Then a clue about what this church was up to. No vampire-hating Fellowship of the Sun, this.
[JOYCE WATNEY] 20, this self-satisfied young woman “who loves the sound of her own, bleeding-heart voice” hosts the “Just Say No to Hate” festival of tolerance and media event, to join together vampires and humans in common cause. She’s proud of founding the “Living Dead Student Alliance” at her school. 3 speeches & 1 line, 1 scene.
This inclusive church must be participating in a tolerance festival. Since the exterior of Bill’s house is in Calabasas, perhaps it’s taking place on his grounds and being hosted by the new king of Louisiana.
Even though Joyce Watney sounds like a cross between Amanda Jane and Sarah Newlin, and Beeeaalll Compton may be involved, don’t write it off “Just Say No to Hate” or the the vampire-inclusive church.
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, “The Catholic Church vampire church is for saints and sinners alone. For respectable people, the Anglican Church Maxine’s church will do.” In other words, don’t overlook the good in the church just because hypocrites exploit it.
Assuming there is truth and goodness in this church, represented by Hoyt and Jessica and others like them, which cross would Alan Ball choose to symbolize it?
That is the question asked on Inside True Blood. Apparently Ball has such tight control over the show, that the prop master and set designer aren’t to be trusted to choose an insignificant prop that’s only going to be seen in a few scenes. Ball has to do it to make sure it corresponds to his vision of the show.
Of course this comes as no surprise to followers of this blog. In fact, for those who have been paying attention to details like the Fellowship of the Sun logo and other symbols that have been prevalent throughout the series, the choice should be obvious.
Which cross will Alan choose?

IDK! The one with the infinity symbols and the quatrefoil in the cross section?
Exactly! Circles (symbolizing eternity and the circle of life), links (connecting and binding everyone together in a chain), and quatrefoils (the sybmol of freedom and transendence). What more could AB ask for?
Yay! I’m sure Hoyt will have more to do with choosing the cross than King Bill. WhoTF does he think he is anyway, Henry VIII?
That bastard Bill is using his progeny as bait!
Just so!
it still blows my mind that AB is even trying to throw the idea out there that Bill could be a King of anything.. even by using magic to defeat QSA.. or “in a sense” whoever will help Bill in that fight scene.. ( i guess the writer’s couldnt think of anything else logical)..
IDK, which cross AB will pick for this church.. i wonder if AB is planning on killing Jessica out??
Jessica does wear a lot of red, and that is the color of self-sacrifice. In fact, Jim Parrack used the term ‘sacrifical’ in an interview when discussing Hoyt and Jessica’s love. Before Jess dies, though, SA has to. The white alchemical stage comes before the red.
Oh yeah, if it suits Bill’s purposes he’ll kill Jess himself, or manipulate Sookie into doing it.
I think Jessica will sacrifice herself for Hoyt and be this new church’s first martyr. Bill will probably be behind whatever goes down, though.
That would be excellent. It would relate her more to Godric than Bill, proving you CAN break the cycle of family dysfunction.
Yes! Jessica would accomplish what Godric failed to do. The white stage can produce some good (silver), but it’s main importance is that it paves the way for the red stage.
You can see its limitations in Godric’s death, which was selfish, not sacrificial. He came to love humanity, but in an impersonal way, so he was only able to affect the world in a limited, imperfect way. The perfect act of Jessica sacrificing herself to save a beloved human and the amount of good that would come from that act would be exponential.
Whatever happens will probably be caught on tape–since taping vampires seems to be a prominent motif this season—and the whole world will see that vampires are just as capable of love and sacrifice as humans. Sometimes, moreso.
Good call! That’s another way Jessica’s death will contrast with Godric’s. He planned his death to be a spectacle, but in the end, his plans were a failure and only Sookie witnessed his death.
Totally!
I don’t think her sacrifice will change everybody’s opinion, but it will have enough of an impact that it will dramatically defuse the situation they currently find themselves in because of RE’s actions. I think to the point where things can go back to being relatively normal and human/vamp relations can move forward on a more positive footing. As you said, the amount of good that would come of the act would be exponential.
Bill will probably be behind whatever goes down, though.
Absolutely. He’ll probably manipulate her into in some way, but this won’t detract from the nobility of her sacrifice.
Damn, I started crying just thinking about how it could go down.
I must admit I had a sniffle thinking about Jess dying. I just hope Sookie won’t be manipulated into doing the deed. I’ll leap at the TV if that happens. Bill never does his own dirty work.
Bill never does his own dirty work.
No he doesn’t the dirty rat bastard. :twistedevil:
You can bet Bill will ultimately be to blame for Jessica’s sacrifice, even while HER motives are pure.
Any ideas or thoughts on how it might go down?
I agree totally Renee. She will sacrifice herself for Hoyt and become the first martyr. Bill of course will shed many tears.
I forgot to add that I think it will be the cross in the middle.
If AB reads this blog, it will be!
well you know Good Ol Billy loves to shed a tear when it fits the situation..
Crocodile tears.
so are you speculating that in a future season Jessica will meet her final death?? maybe not in s4?? but another??
because we know QSA is dying out in s4..or at least it appears she is dying out in s4..& QSA is wearing all black in that fight scene with Bill though.. i think you speculated in the past that QSA will die out wearing white?? so maybe SA survives the actually fight & only get’s injured.. than later she dies out by some other event..
the issue is that the actress hasent been seen filming any other episodes but the fight scene so far for s4.. **sigh**
what are all the colore agian suppose to represent in the alchemical stage??
s1 nigredo (black)–Bill’s false sacrifice, burns black, Bill is buried in the earth, the primary symbol of this stage
s2 albedo (white)–Godric’s selfish sacrifice, burns white
s3 rubedo (red)–Lorena’s imperfect self-sacrifice, burns red in 3.02 and she dies covered in her own blood for the red
s3 nigredo–Eric’s failed sacrifice of RE, burns black, RE buried
s4 albedo–SA’s due for another selfish act and white burn
s5 rubedo–Jessica sacrifices herself for a loved one
s1 Bill almost always wore earthtones
s2 Godric always wore white or gray
s3 In s2 Lorena was always in shades of red. This marked her for a death in the rubedo even though s3 she was always in black and white. This is because she completed another cycle. Bill’s s2 rejection plunged her back into a depressive violent black phase. After he called her a cow and slamed the door in his face, she started moving on to the white phase and learning from the experience. That’s why she was wearing the black and white dress. Lorena’s own blood was the red she ultimately died in.
wow Renee, thanks for that
i think i understand it a little better now.. so when Jessica dies out her death will actually help the vampire movement & humans get along better & coexsist type thing?? so therefore, another problem has to come up at this point since noone is always happy on TB..
Exactly! There are only two ways back from the shitstorm RE stirred up. The one RE is planning involves him becoming a tyrant and imposing order. The other is a sacrificial vampire death.
it still blows my mind that AB is even trying to throw the idea out there that Bill could be a King of anything
Lol, that’s partly why he’s going there; to blow everyone’s mind.
Bringing it down here BG:
Any ideas or thoughts on how it [Jessica's sacrifice] might go down?
Right now, I’m going with the parallel of Bill at the nest/the deaths of the terrible trio and the little fangbanger.
Bill knew something was going down, yet he left them there to die. No warning, nothing, just left.
I think something similar will happen with Jess, Hoyt and possibly Tommy. Bill will get warning that something is going down, probably a bunch of FoTS vigilantes coming after them, and instead of warning them so they can save themselves he’ll LIHOP [let it happen on purpose]–same as the nest– so that he, personally, can suck up public sympathy. “Mah chald was mur-dered” *clown tears*..Only Jess conducts herself like a champ, saving many, probably even a lot of humans, by sacrificing herself. This may even go down at their new church.
I wondered why we saw that burning cross on the front lawn at Bill’s manse. That had to be some sort of foreshadowing.
Definitely foreshadowing imo!
And be prepared: In the public mind at least, Jessica’s sacrifice will reflect ‘well’ on her maker. GAAAAG. At least for the foreseable future until someone *coughTaracough* digs up the truth. Good luck getting anyone to listen to your conspiracy theory my dear!
Did you get jumped all over again?
LOL! No, though I almost wrote a searing rant today. But I decided that provocation for the sake of provocation is just tiring. LOL.
It’s good to pick your battles. Saves a lot of energy.
@Sunny
That’s his style, fo’ sure.
I wonder if Nan will be in town when things fire up, checking in with the Regent King? She is a regular this year.
I believe for sure that Nan will be spending a lot of time in BT with Bill.
didnt SM say that Bill will try to redeem himself in s4?
i think in one of the future seasons AB will have Sookie by herself redeem Bill like CH had Sookie do in DAG ( when Sookie thought Bill was about to die)..
the problem with Jessica dying out in s5 ( Maybe Charles starts a fire & Jessica has to rescue Hoty out the church or something)?? Sookie will feel guilty since Bill killed Long Shdow for her, & Charles comes to town to hurt Sookie & yada,yada,yada.. AB keeps giving show Bill alot of book Eric’s story arc.. in the process Jessica dies saving Hoyt like you guys predict in s5 & Sookie will feel partly responsible since she feels partly responsible for Jessica anyway.. & this keeps Sookie on the show “connected” to Bill..
since SM said that Bill will try to redeem himself in s4 to Sookie i guess his redeemption will be to help with the curse on Eric?? Sookie will tell Regular Eric that Bill got the witch to uncurse him instead of it being Pam or something ( like it was in the books)..
yea i can just see it now.. s5 casting list will consist of
1. Charles T ( & the writer’s will kill him out like FM died out in s3)
2. Quinn ( if he isnt already casted under a different name).. i am a little shocked that AB would change his name since he is another book lover of Sookie’s.. Sookie actually dated Quinn from DD -FDTW.. just like she dated Bill from DUD -CD.. but IDK, if AB will actually have show Show Sookie date Quinn for 3 seasons anyway..
spo the writer’s might only have her dating him for a short period?? she meets him in person offically in s5 ( DAAD)
Eric’s story arc in s5 will be non book releated anyway since Bill carries that book story arc on the show..
I’m really hoping s5 will skip right to Rhodes. I refuse to entertain any other possibilities until I hear it officially. LOL!
I know Rhodes involved some kind of vampire summit and SA was there, but what was it all about?
Bare bones of All Together Dead-
Summit at Rhodes Vampire Hotel, convention of sorts
Sookie is asked by Sheriff Eric to attend as resident telepath
Andre wants to have her bonded to queen (himself really)-
Eric foils his attempt-Third blood exchange with Sookie- bonded
Quinn is Sookie’s escort/date- QSA faces tribunal for death of husband-Quinn injured during an attempt on witnesses
Plot found to blow up hotel
Big kaboom
Sookie saves bunch of people (Eric & Pam) first.
Sounds exciting! No wonder you guys want to see it played out on screen.
the main reason QSA was in trouble was for the murder of Peter ( her vampire husband).. Sookie witnessed Andre kill Peter in DD ( NOLA)..QSA couldnt gain Peter’s state untill she was found Not Guilty.. which she was by the AP & Sookie’s testimony.. than later Felipe kills QSA anyway..
At Rhodes she also murdered his second in an elaborate Machiavellian plot that Sookie got involved in.
Renee : ” At Rhodes she also murdered his second in an elaborate Machiavellian plot that Sookie got involved in”.
yea QSA had Seigbert kill Jade Flower’s in her hotel room..but QSA wanted Sookie to find the body.. & remember the hitman that QSA had set up that Barry & Sookie found out about in the daytime when they went on the mission.. QSA was making sure she wasent going to found guilty..LOL !! plus Quinn offer’s to kill Eric for Sookie in Rhodes..
There are a few sub-plots, it is one of my favourites of the series.
I really will be interested how AB would depict this. Vampire politics, FoTs plots and some soul searching
Hey BG, i really liked ATD as well.. there were other vampire’s on trail as well.. one turned a baby into a vampire & ect..ect..ect.. we found out in this book that Eric was a preist
the Berlinger’s were something else.. QSA had Seigbert kill Jade Flower’s in her roon..
some things wont make it to the show since QSA will end up dying out earlier & QSA only has 1 child which is Andre on the show.. & there is no Peter.. so i wonder who AB will have on trail for murder?? Eric?? Bill?? Russell?? AB killed Stan out in s2 so he wont be in Rhodes.. maybe Isabell will be?? if Russell is suppose to be the new Felipe then he will just go agianst the Authority all the time..
There’s also a bomb in a Dr. Pepper can that Sookie picks up. She refuses to put it down since that could cause the detonation. Eric rushes to her side as the hotel is evacuated, and they fight about her turning it over to him. She refuses and he stays there with her until the bomb squad get there. Swoon.
Quinn also stayed up there when Sookie had the Dr. pepper bomb.. so since this is TB.. AB could place Bill & Eric & Quinn all up there ..LOL !! Bill was sent away by QSA in the book when he tried to go up there & talk Sookie out of keeping the bomb..
There were quite a few swooning moments in ATD. Dancing at the ball was #1 for me. Also Eric’s hissy fit at Sookie’s dancing with Barry.
Loved it.
OMG Eric was pissed off at her dancing style with Barry.. he did have a point though.. sometimes Sookie comes across so childish in the books..
i wonder if that is why AB has her baby doll clothes on the show..
Yah, but I hope that will change sooner than later.
it was sort of funny because Eric knew that they were married already when she was dancing with Barry.. & when you compare how she didnt want to dance with Tara in CD at the werewolf bar & how open she felt dancing with Barry at the vampire hotel in Rhodes & she was all over the place.. i was shaking my head.. LOL Eric told her at that moment “we are Tied” & yada,yada,yada.. but our dear Telepath just waved it off.. so she found out what that meant in DAG..LOL !!
as for the baby doll clothes IDK, she has a childish personality more often than not.. but it would be cool to see Sookie in more grown up clothes since she is suppose to be 27 on the show.. she sort of acts like she is still in high school 16 yrs. old..
part of that is CH’s fault for stunting Sookie’s growth in the books.. i mean Sookie was 26 in Rhodes she didnt turn 27 till later.. she was 27 by DAG & she remains 27 1/2 in DITF so Sookie should be turning 28 soon enough.. i think by book 13 Sookie will either be 28 1/2 or 29.. Jason is already 29 in DITF so he will be 30 soon..
@ Charm, QSA in ATD ( book 7) was on a murder trail for killing her vampire husband Peter.. actually Andre killed Peter in DD.. so the vampire summit was alot of court stuff other vampire’s on trail for different things.. Sookie was there to be a witness for QSA because Sookie is tied to the Louisana vampires & she did witness who actually killed Peter… QSA beat the murder trail & got to gain Peter’s state Ark.. then when the Hotel blows up Quinn stakes Andre & QSA got injured ( lost her limbs & it takes a while for them to grow back).. in the process Quinns mother who is mentally ill escapes her hospital. & Felipe cleans up her mess.. in return Felipe ordered Quinn to tell him everything he knows about QSA & her territory assests ect..ect..ect.. Quinn sell’s Sookie out as Being Eric’s assest.. Felipe kills QSA & that is FDTW story arc for the Take over..
well AB has chopped book 5 up moreso than he did LDID.. & the main reason for chopping up DAAD was because he gave Bill the LS kill in s1.. so in s5 there shouldnt be a Mickey situation & therefore no Eric needing to save Tara from anything ( unless, AB & writer’s create a new reason or have Bill save Tara this time in s5 since he didnt lift a finger to assist her in s3)..
the deviation from the books regarding Jessica, Laffy & Tara placing them in story acrs to help the story flow & they are leads anyway..
SM said in the past that Quinn exsist.. in s1 all the foreshadowing of the Tiger was there.. but since AB has Bill’s character as the lead male trying to be with Sookie & the center focus remains in Bon Temps unless Sookie travels somewhere.. Sookie stays local in DAAD & in DD she only traveled to NOLA.. so some of DD/s6 will be chopped up maybe to travel to Rhodes.. but Quinn should still be around in s5 & s6 & s7.. & if AB is bold to do a s8 FDTW is all choped up somewhat.. but since AB said & already confirmed that Niall is comming he might place him early in s5 or s6.. AB said he looks forward to blowing up a hotel so i do think we will get a Rhodes.. the Fae war is what i’m not sure about unless AB decides to do it & place it in s6??
at the end of the day, Eric’s story arc for s5 will be brand new like the majority of his story arc since the show started.. in s1 he kept the same story arc but Bill got his kills.. in s2 the majority of Eric’s story acr was non book related.. the character’s that carry the book story arc’s on the show is Bill, & Sookie..& then the writer’s just place everyone else to fit in as filler’s doing something.. Eric’s story arc on the show are all AB created ( selling V, not knowing Russell & Russell killed his human family & yada, yada, yada, ).. if Eric killed Hallow a bad ass witch & the only thing she can come up with in s4 is to curse him to his Hearts Desire that is corny IMO.. but at least it’s somewhat Book Eric’s story arc.. & since he will be in Bon Temps him & Sookie sleep togather..
i bet on TB Sookie will know where everyones room is in Rhodes.. she will still call Quinn to exit the hotel but AB might have her go to Bill’s room as well maybe first or second & then go to Eric & Pam’s room when the bomb goes off..
Reading all of this stuff about Bill and power reminds me of Animal Farm…Bill being the very pig he appeared to be in the van/rape scene…the pigs in Animal Farm…(cut and paste time)A large, rather fierce-looking Berkshire boar, the only Berkshire on the farm, not much of a talker, but with a reputation for getting his own way”,[8] An allegory of Joseph Stalin,[6] Napoleon is the main villain of Animal Farm. He begins to gradually build up his power, using the dogs Jessie and Bluebell, whom he he took from their parents as puppies and raised to be vicious dogs, as his secret police. After driving Snowball off the farm, Napoleon usurps full power, using false propaganda from Squealer and threats and intimidation from the dogs to keep the other animals in line. Among other things, he gradually changes the Commandments for his benefit. By the end of the book, Napoleon and his fellow pigs have learned to walk upright and started to behave similarly to the humans against whom they originally revolted”
True Blood seems to have a lot of similar ideology as the book…food for thought.
I’m very curious to see how Bill handles power for this very reason. For a start, I expect his treatment of prisoners will be much worse than Eric’s.
personally even though i think AB is mixing Victor with show Bill due this this position Bill isnt use to being in power..
the definition of Regent is simple ( which is Regent = somebody who rules on behalf of a monarch who is unable to rule because of youth, illness, or absence)..
