so glad you wrote this! you've taken a fascinating and for me, complicated process-and broken it down step by step. thank you so very much! as i stated in an earlier post, i've read and re-read your posts on the alchemical process many times. then, i'll go back and watch episodes with your words in the front of my mind. it truly makes SUCH a difference watching with this as a frame of reference. my enjoyment of the show and those earlier episodes definitely increased, as this helped me to have a better understanding of a much bigger picture. i hope that you continue to post about this intriguing subject and it's influence on the show. Thank you Renee!

Very good theories, but will this be updated now that Season 4 has aired?
I have in mind the scene with Sookie wearing White after her first sex with Eric, and then she gets his blood on her white shirt when she lays with him in the basement..
also this season had vampires burning as well... but instead of black and charred or giant white bursts, Eric was veryyyy red and bloodied... hmmmm

You may be right, and I wouldn't put it past AB, but I think roasted ham is probably a common thing to cook in the South (at least judging by Paula Deen), and Debbie was referring to the fairytale of the wolf and the 3 little pigs. Before she broke the door down, she yelled "I'm gonna huff, and puff, and blow your house down." But I like your interpretation too. It's nice to hypothesize that TB has so many layers.

Hi Rina, sorry we missed your earlier comments. We spend most of our time on the forum.

You say: "And I think some of this analysis is unnecessarily hostile to a complex and flawed character."

Most reviewers have an unfortunate LACK of hostility to this complex character who has demonstrated time and again his penchant for sacrificing everyone around him to get what he wants. Not all 'bad' people are merely 'flawed'. Some people are downright evil, plain and simple. I can provide a list if you like but I'll let 'Hitler' 'Bathory' and 'Gacy' suffice. People like this exist and have always been part of our reality so there is no reason why AB wouldn't portray such a person, albeit with skill and admirable nuance rather along clearly drawn lines of black and white. However, just because the portrayal of Bill is subtle and complex does not mean the character himself is not easily recognizable for what he is. It has nothing to do 'Teams'--we've moved well beyond that paradigm and are more interested in discussing existence of evil and what it means for OUR existence; how to recognize, and fight, malevolent influences.

Probably you are right about CH's reasoning, but AB has taken advantage of the implications of Sookie's name. [See huge ham Bill cooked for her in s1 dream, Debbie calling her 'piggy piggy']

"While Sookie could be viewed an a virginal offering to death in the form of Vampire Bill, the name is apropos for the object of a vampire’s affection for other reasons as well. Sook was the familiar name for livestock in the Scottish lowlands. It means suck and is derived from the Old English ‘sucan’ which is probably how it came to be a nickname for Susan. When the Scotch-Irish immigrated, Sookie, not Bessie, became the common name for cows and sookie can still be heard in the backwoods South when it’s time to call the hogs for dinner instead of the more common sooeee."
