I read that about Shirley McLean this morning.  It should be fun with her and Maggie Smith.

I cried when William died too.

O'Brian – she was the one that brought Mrs. Bates to the Abbey in the first place.  Now she's upset because it may cause Lady whatsis grief?  She's going to get found out and I bet it will be Mrs. Bates that spills the beans.

And I just knew Sir Richard was looking only for an entry into the aristocracy.  Mary is screwed.  If the marriage does go forth he is going to be one hell of a prick.

From the preview for the next ep, it looks like Mary tries to get out of the marriage but Sir Richard is having none of it. He says something like, paraphrasing,  'you handed me the power to destroy you and believe me I'll use it'. I can't see how Mary had any other choice but to do what she did but damn did she miscalculate that bastard.

"O'Brian –She's going to get found out and I bet it will be Mrs. Bates that spills the beans."

Right, I didn't think of O'Brian being in a pickle herself. If she tries to do anything to stop Mrs. Bates, Mrs. Bates can use that against her. Both of them are practiced plotters so that storyline should get real interesting.

Did you catch Downton yesterday sunny?

Wanna bet Bates is arrested for the Mrs's death?  I was hoping Bates would take over Carson's position when he leaves.

At least she'll have an ally against Sir Richard.

I think Bates may think he actually killed Vera, but I smell a set-up. In the preview, someone was said to have been given a dose of arson. Did Bates show up and have a violent argument with the Mrs. just before she died of poisoning? If so, I think it will be found that she poisoned herself and timed her death to coincide with her husband's arrival. Bitch gone get her revenge!

Absolutely about Carson. He sees how gauche and aggressive Sir Richard is and knows Mary will need all the allies she can get. Mary knows it too, Sir Richard has threatened to destroy her.  That is why she was so insistent Carson come with her and wouldn't back down from her father's disapproval. She played it way cool but you know she's desperate.

Curious about P. Gordon.  Is he really Patrick or was it a scam too.  Poor Edith, she does have bad luck with men in her life.

It really seemed like Patrick was always following Ethel's lead when it came to his memories, and during their last conversation he seemed to be hinting that they would find the 'truth' and it would not be good. Then at the end Ethel was crying over the letter he left for her. I think he told her the truth because he genuinely cared for her.

Yay!

FX
Ever since Ryan Murphy revealed that he was trying to bring back some original castmembers for American Horror Story's second season, we've been anxiously demanding waiting patiently for news on who will be popping up next year. Finally, we have something!
Murphy confirmed last night to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that a fan favorite will be returning. So who's coming back?
MORE: Daily Spoiler Chat: Romance Updates on Castle, Smash, Justified and More!
Prashant Gupta / FX
The one, the only…Jessica Lange!
Cohen asked the AHS and Glee creator: "You are recasting American Horror Story for next season. Will Jessica Lange make an appearance?" Surprisingly, Murphy confirmed the speculation with a simple "yes."
It's not the most surprising announcement seeing as Lange had been "thinking about" returning to AHS for some time now. But still, the Golden Globe and SAG Award winner will be making an appearance in season two, and that's all that matters to us right now. The only question remaining is: will she reprise her role Constance Langdon in season two or, as Murphy said previously, return as a different character?
AHS fans should also squash any hope that Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott or Taissa Farmiga would return, because Murphy also stated: "I'm in negotiations with four of the people who were on last year's show, and none of them were the Harmons." So Evan Peters could return. But more importantly…Zachary Quinto?!
Murphy continued dropping AHS scoop by revealing that season two will take place "somewhere on the East Coast and it's going to be a horror institution." Mental hospital? Perhaps.
So many questions! Time to start speculating!

Re: Downton

I have been trying to find a spot online to watch season 1 and can't find one.  I'm going to have to break down and but the DVD's.

I'm with BG on P. Gordon.  What was his story in the first season?  Was he actually shown surviving the Titanic?  (Little know fact…I was born on the 50th anniversary of Titanic's hitting the iceberg.)

No. The series started out with a letter arriving to Downton with the news of Patrick's death. It all happened off-screen, but there was never any indication that he could have survived. And I agree with sunny that Two-Face was following Edith's lead as far as memories.

(And every time Sir Richard does something shady/douchey, I just want to yell 'Ser Jorah, NO! What would Dany say?', and then I remember what happens in the later books and I'm all 'Oh, right.')

That's what I thought, BG.

@Genie…Thanks I looked there but couldn't find it.  Off to look again.

ETA:  Bugs!  I so don't want to have to remember to cancel so I won't get billed monthly.  I think I'll stick to my first plan…just buy the dvds…lol.

Osterby…you might like netflix.  It's a good way to catch up on stuff you heard was good but didn't necessarily want to buy.

I watched the first season on the PBS website but this was just after the conclusion of season 1's first run here in the States.

YES, Matthew must regain the use of his..erm..essential accoutrement. He and Mary HAVE to fuck, I say. Laugh

Forsyth Saga?  I loved both versions.  The one from the '70's and the most recent.  Which one do you have?

I have the newer one.  I seem to have amassed a collection of "the classics." I have read that the 70 production was much better, but I have never seen that version.

I don't know about better.  It was just a bit different.  More character driven if I remember correctly.  It started out in black and white.  I remember being thrilled when they went to colour.

I recall our TV was on the fritz at the time and we trekked to a friends house for about a month on Sunday night just to watch it.  I was dragging our toddler son and his play pen for him to sleep in.  Then at 10:00 o'clock we'd pack everything up and head home.  There was no such thing as taping it back then.  Those were good friends to put up with that.  We did bring Tim Horton's donuts ( something like Dunkin Donuts) with us at least.
