OfflineWe've discussed some of the cartoons on the wall in FT bathroom a bit in previous threads.
There's the bat/Dracula = Bill
The child smoking = possible young vampire who smokes S5?
Red Ridding Hood = Jessica on Halloween? S4
Girl hanging her head over toilet = Arlene with morning sickness? S3
But who or what is the mermaid?
Sookie!
The evil-intentioned mermaid is not the only way these creatures were seen as dangerous. Some believed that even well-intentioned mermaids would cause great danger to men who believed they saw a woman drowning and would dive into the waters to save them. Other tales suggest that mermaids either forgot or didn't understand that humans could not breathe underwater, and they would pull them down into the depths of the sea, accidentally drowning them in the process.
Hey, sometimes they can be on point. However, most likely there is something I'm missing. Wasn't the sick girl drawing right behind Sookie in one scene? And I have a feeling those drawing don't always stay the same/stay in the same position on the wall? Or am I imagining that?
"Even though I detest Bill, he is one of the best villains I ever seen on TV."
I can't argue with that. Hell, I wouldn't spend so much time on him if I didn't find him fascinating. Actually, I find the reaction to him almost as fascinating as the character itself.
I think AB and SM will need all their balls to take Bill all the way down, but I do think that's where it's going.

It will be interesting to see how CH will approach this in her upcoming book, if she hasn't totally succumbed to the BL's and stays true to her own intent. I'm guessing AB gets the galleys[?] of the upcoming book and can then put his own spin on the direction of his arc.
Those of us that read the books will have to pay close attention to what's going on.

OfflineI was thinking that the mermaid could be Mab. Because Mab's dress looks like fish scales :
Characters behind Pam made me think to AE and "Claudine"…
Girl hanging her head over toilet, perhaps to Rene's sister, Cindy… because of her waitress uniform :
Interresting that Little Red Ridding Hood has a wolf in her basket :
There also was a baby vampire behind Sookie in 1x09. I thought perhaps it was a foreshadowing of baby-vamp Jessica :

OfflineGreat finds, thanks French K. I like the idea that the mermaid is Mab. She may turn out to be water fae.
The girl over the toilet could be both Arlene and Cindy. Arlene is a waitress too, in a different uniform.
The wolf in Rinding Hoods basket is curious. Perhaps signifying Bill's control of Alcide?
Nice work, Frenchie!
I notice the one of Pam talking to Jess in the stall, her head is framed by the bat wings. Foreshadowing the spell driving her batshit? As Exit, I think, pointed out Pam is not just under a rotting spell she's also under a some kind of controlling spell. [still is, as far as we know]

OfflineI think so because, What if Bill had developed a fairy blood smuggling ? (as humans did with V)
Nan to Bill about Sookie – 4x12: "I know at least two thousand vampires who would pay a fortune to taste her blood." (or words to that effect)
And then, what if Pam is one of his customer ? I thought she looked like a drunkard in this scene:

Bill could have sold the Sookie's blood to Pam (which is his Reinflied and is herself full of Bill's blood) and thus by her he would get his blood into Pam. Perhaps getting some "control" over she.
That's what I thought when I saw Pam's head framed by the bat wings.

Didn't Ruby Jean tell Lala that he could breathe underwater?
That's right! Lafayette could represent the mermaid, but then why situate Sookie in front of it and not Lala? He's connected to Eric and a reason could be found to get him in the ladies at FT. He doesn't mind doing it at Merlotte's.

OfflineRe mermaids – not sure if this is strictly relevant but mermaids always make me think of selkies, the seal people of the North of Scotland/Iceland (also the Irish have a variation). The live as seals in the water but on the land they shed their skins and become incredibly beautiful and seductive humans. There are different variations on the mythology but the most common story is the Seal Wife – a fisherman sees a beautiful selkie on the land, falls for her and steals her skin so she can't return to the water. He forces her into marriage by hiding her skin but it's not a happy marriage as she pines the whole time for the sea. In some versions he relents and lets her go, in others she finally finds her skin and escapes.

Offline@Courtly_LoveMachine – selkies
There was a movie made in the 90's about selkies. It's a lovely movie with a great sound track.
The Secret of Roan Inish is an American/Irish independent film written and directed by John Sayles, and released in 1994. It's based on the novel The Secret of Ron Mor Skerry, by Rosalie K. Fry.[1]

OfflineHey thanks for that bobsgran. A few years ago I was involved in a 'devised' theatre project in an old whaling town, a retelling of the Seal Wife with members of the local Aboriginal community plus some curmudgeons from the town who were expecting something more along the lines of "South Pacific". It was pretty, er, 'interesting' but it did feature a beautiful 12 metre bridal veil that looked spectacular against wild, roiling seas
Ondine is a sweet little movie about a Selke. With Colin Farrell! Recommend!

OfflineThere's a wereseal in the Mabinogion, Dylan ail Dôn leaps into the water and becomes a selkie.
http://cymru.wikia.com/wiki/Wereseals
He is the son of Arianrhod by magical means and has a brother called Lleu Llaw Gyffes. As soon as Dylan comes in contact with his baptismal waters, he plunges into the sea and takes on characteristics of a sea creature, moving through the seawater as perfectly as any fish:
'So they had the boy baptised, and as they baptised him he plunged into the sea. And immediately when he was in the sea, he took its nature, and swam as well as the best fish that was therein. And for that reason was he called Dylan, the son of the Wave.'

OfflineI love that there are Wereseals! And Selkie films with Colin Farrell, what a strange and beautiful world.
Sookie's a Sky Fairy, right? So that's a thumbs up for the Celtic connection but a thumbs down for the water.
Apart from Selkies when I think of mermaids I think of sailors - so maybe the reference is to Mr North Sea?

The movie is a strange and beautiful world, but it's also heartbreaking and poignant. You really must see it, it's lovely.
Agreed, the Selkie isn't Sookie. It has to be Lafayette, who can breathe underwater. He is 'two-natured' in the sense that the top half of him, comprising his made-up face and his blouses, is female while the bottom half of him is consistently clothed in masculine attire and shoes and his sex, which it just so happens Mavis helpfully drew our attention to. "How can I have a baby with dis?" Indeed, how can a mermaid with a tail have a baby?
It strikes me this is the role in which Lafayettes has cast himself, as a mermaid/selke, he is a siren tempting men who then shipwreck upon the rocks [Senator, Eddie], or the men 'marry' [Eric] and trap her, 'binding' her to himself.
7 years? Is this a clue to how long the vampire blood in a person will last?
