Inspired by True Blood and the Tarot.

I was poking around here and was reminded of the 16th card of the Major Arcana, The Tower:

No card scares a Tarot reader like the Tower – or the person they're reading for if that person knows anything about Tarot cards. It is however one of the clearest cards when it comes to meaning. False structures, false institutions, false beliefs are going to come tumbling down, suddenly, violently and all at once.

~~

I wondered, did we see a/any towers in season 4? Why yes, yes we did:

Notice how Terry even provides an image of something being thrown out of the tower:

Then there is this tower:

This one more clearly relates to the tower card. not only is this tower afire it contains a crowned head [soon to be toppled] and the symbol for the sun is throwing a lightning bolt. Stones and dead people are strewn about the tower.

Jesus and I agreed to see other people, but that don't mean we don't still talk from time to time.

@sunny

Yup, even though I know nothing about Tarot, the one of Terry in Fort Bellefleur sure seems to apply.

Andy's false beliefs in the power of V came tumbling down.

We can only hope that the same will apply to the last pic of the pyre tower and prove to be prophetic.

False beliefs are going to come tumbling down, suddenly, violently and all at once for the viewer as well as the characters in the story.

Interesting…

In the color card…the two falling figures…one blonde, one dark haired.

Yes I think the first tower initially relates directly to Andy, but I think it is predictive for Terry.

I believe the second tower could be thought of as a tarot reading for the audience. If this is an accurate interpretation of the symbolism I've answered my own question in another thread–namely, how will TB go about setting the record straight on all the lies and false narratives? Suddenly, violently, and all at once. YAY.

Jesus and I agreed to see other people, but that don't mean we don't still talk from time to time.

Another thing about the Tower is that it can specifically mean tearing down the lies you built yourself (even Sookie in the book seem to alter her own memory, build her own false interpretation of events in order to cope). And that it can be a card about anything you once believe is true, only to find out later is false. Reversed, the Tower does not say that there are no lies, and there is no change, but rather that you are resisting these things, delaying the inevitable. You fear the destruction that must happen in order to go forward.

I'm not sure how this card would relate to Sookie, she seems more firmly entrenched in the lies than ever for this whole season. Whether or not Tara getting shot (if that's what happened) is supposed to be her own personal lightning struck tower moment or if that moment is still yet to come, we should be able to determine when season 5 begins. But I do agree that the TB's lies will pretty much go out suddenly and with a very big bang. There might be a pebble or two down the mountainside for those that are looking, but not much. The reveal is going to be huge and awful, bigger and badder than anything previously thought of. It's all going to end in tears.

The Tower comes after the Devil card, which features a satyr with a naked couple (mirroring the Lovers card) "chained" to him, bound by their beastial desires. But the chains are loose, and they could slip them if they wanted, and the satyr says its up to them. The Devil is not an evil force, he's not good or evil, just powerful. The Devil represents (among other things) obsession and addiction, being trapped by unhealthy or codependent relationships, becoming fixated (unhealthily) on an idea. And when reversed it can indicate a growing awareness of your own state of obsession/addiction, and a willingness to change, but you have to be careful not to put yourself with people who may not have your best interest at heart.

The Lovers card mirrors the Devil card, with the angel Raphael replacing the Devil. Raphael is the angel of the Air, and the Snake is behind the woman, and fire behind the man (there's also usually water between the two Lovers). The Lovers represent a major personal choice, finding your own values, and what may appear negative is actually a blessing in disguise. The Lovers reversed can mean inner conflict, being at war with yourself, or rushing into a situation for the immediate gratification. Or that the feelings within a relationship are not mutual.

The card following the The Tower is The Star, a card of hope and healing after trials and pain. Having just had your life blown apart in front of you (the Tower), the Star represents the hope and possibility of change, not quite the journey of personal transformation, but being told that there are buses headed towards Personal Transformatville, and one should be along within the hour, so why don't you just have a seat over there and look at the pretty stars and the water and the naked lady pouring buckets of water on the ground. When reversed, it means your journey has become distorted, you feel despair and depression, you lose hope and faith.

I can definitely see allusions to the Tarot in True Blood, but I don't know what the bigger picture of it all is, by which I mean, if I can see imagery of The Tower, does that mean The Star is next because it is next in the order of the tarot? Or will it be The Empress? The ten of cups? Or is it that he's literally just giving us a tableau vivant Tarot reading for the show?

Incidentally, the water depicted in tarot cards represents the subconscious, which the fairy pool and the cups of Crystal light seem to be alluding to.

Fascinating Exit, really incredible. I love your knowledge of esoterica!

"the naked lady pouring buckets of water on the ground."

Well well well!

" does that mean The Star is next because it is next in the order of the tarot? Or will it be The Empress? The ten of cups? Or is it that he's literally just giving us a tableau vivant Tarot reading for the show? "

I  would say the images turn up serendipitously like a tarot reading.

"I'm not sure how this card would relate to Sookie, she seems more firmly entrenched in the lies than ever for this whole season."

True, but I don't think it relates to s4 Sookie but is predictive of s5 Sookie.

"Whether or not Tara getting shot (if that's what happened) is supposed to be her own personal lightning struck tower moment or if that moment is still yet to come, we should be able to determine when season 5 begins."

I think even if Tara did not get shot Sookie will still be traumatized by the 'vision' of the shooting, or whatever it was. It was horrendous, real or not. I do think we'll know if this was her 'lightning struck tower moment' at the very beginning of s5.

Jesus and I agreed to see other people, but that don't mean we don't still talk from time to time.
