@osterby–"I think they are more like doppels than the same person. Or perhaps Bill is emulating RE."
Well yes absolutely, I think it's more likely that Bill took over and emulated RE's persona. I just think he may have also literally skinwalked/posed as RE, rather like Tara did with Sookie.

OfflineI think you all maybe on to something… I was just reminded of the movie Angel Heart and now wonder with all of Bill's posing as other people…if there's a possibility he's not even the real William T. Compton. I think he may have stolen a soldier's identity while in battle, he might have even been the man's friend, that's why he can account for everything that happened during that time.
Something just tells me "Bill" had sold his soul long before Lorena came into his life.
Absolutely Genie. We were beginning to wonder about that when the obviously photoshopped pic of Civil War Bill came out:
What you propose sounds an awful lot like the film Sommersby, which we've discussed several in connection to Bill.
I've enumerated some of the problems with Bill's story of his making, like the house full of rotting corpses but Bill didn't notice the smell, so I'm inclined to believe either 1. He was a human serial killer on the run and took on another identity, or 2. He's a much older vampire than he's saying, got in some serious trouble with the vampire authorities and took on another identity.

OfflineWell this would certainly explain why we saw a second Caroline in Bill's flashback (when he was at RE's) when he buried his son and spared Caroline.
We saw a blonde Caroline in her rocking chair on the Compton front porch in the picture Mayor Norris presented to Bill at the DOGD.
Bill said good bye to a blonde wife when he left for war and when he returned after becoming a vampire his brunette wife welcomed him back with open arms.
He can't remember what the hell Caroline is supposed to look like.
osterby, somehow I lost your e-mail but I did go in and clear the cache. All you do is in the dashboard, hover over 'settings' and you'll see WP Super Cache. Click on that and scroll down to the delete cache button. Hopefully the glitches are cleared up already?

Offline1. He was a human serial killer on the run and took on another identity, or 2. He's a much older vampire than he's saying, got in some serious trouble with the vampire authorities and took on another identity.
I could see either of these scenarios being true. Something always smelled about his war story at GD…and the fact that he flew into rage after. I don't think it had anything to do with Lorena either.
I need to go back and watch his flashbacks with Caroline.
If TB does in fact reveal Bill as Gran's killer…I wonder will it be because she knew the truth about him, and was going to expose it.
I don't think Gran knew anything in particular, though she might have suspected shenanigans. Bill just needed to kill her for…reasons, even though she had befriended him and introduced him to the town.
Here is discussion about a serial killer Bill could have been modeled on:

We discussed possible parallels with historical serial killers like The Axeman of New Orleans at one time but I can't remember where:

Plus one in early 20th century Chicago I can't recall.

I may have mentioned this book before. It's about a serial killer and the Chicago Worlds Fair.
The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America (Crown Publishers, ISBN 0609608444) is a2003 non-fiction book by Erik Larson presented in a novelistic style. The book is based on real characters and events. Leonardo DiCapriopurchased the film rights in 2010.[1]
The book is set in Chicago circa 1893, intertwining the true tales of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World's Fair, and Dr. H.H. Holmes, the serial killer who lured his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle."
I read it years ago. It's not terribly big and you could polish it off in about 1 day.

Part of what was interesting about the book is the ins and outs of getting the fair built and the architect was the same one that built Central Park NYC. if I remember correctly.
The landscape architect guy was the same for both of them, as least as far as landscapes.
And yes, its a fascinating great read, with all sorts of bizarre true connections, like to Walt Disney and such. And I can definitely see a connection between HH Holmes and Bill, as far as serial killer goes.
