@anna–I doubt it very much but I also doubt it was necessary to have all of it for the magic to work. If RE needed all of it he would have found a way bring it since raising Talbot was his intent. RE gathering as much of Talbot's goo as he could comfortably carry with him I think was simply a mark of his own sentimentality. I think perhaps a natural necromancer only needs a tiny piece of the person they are raising? Since not all dead bodies would be fresh enough to have left much behind to work with, merely having some kind of contact with his spirit might do.

Off topic, but if these pearls are real–and I don't know why they wouldn't be, stowed away as they are in a bag full of silver–then Gran had a few pieces of very valuable jewelry indeed. Look at that diamond tennis bracelet up top, and there are at least SIX appox. 2 carat emeralds–along with diamonds!–on that necklace! I wonder if Bill has managed to steal all of it yet?

Uh oh. I just figured it out. I've always referred to Sookie as TB's Holy Grail. She can dig out facts, such as contained in the scene in which she searched the book–a book full of secret knowledge. She can command magic, like the Necronomicon. She is valuable, old [soul], and dangerous in the wrong hands. She is a 'secret weapon' in disguise. She's put away in a box, hung up on a wall like a trophy, sitting by the hearth, chained away in a basement, trapped inside a mirror inside a crystal ball. She can be used to kill, to control, to gain the advantage, to blackmail, to break spells. Touche! She is shiny like the sun, like a sword. She's Bill's 'crutch', his 'prop' per upper like a walking stick. She's an open book, a lost book, a hidden book, a spell book, a database, a book of the dead, of sorrows and memories, of stories and epics, fables and fairies, fires and wars and rumors of war. In short, she's power in a pretty blonde bottle, a bottle being a container for liquid, like the Grail. The sun and the sword, acting in tangent, 'the two' 'the two Sookie's', is a source of untold powers to any who can call her 'mine'.
Dude dude dude dude dude dude dude, this relates back to the Tzadikim Nistarim that I may have briefly mentioned once before in one of my teal dears about demonology and Kabbalah and whatnot. I'm pretty tired right now, so if this rambles or doesn't make a whole lotta sense, I'm sorry, you all are just gonna have to suffer through it or scroll on by.
The Tzadikim Nistarim (hidden righteous ones) is the name for the 36 Righteous people, a notion from the more mystical aspects of Judaism. It's the idea that at all times there are minimally 36 righteous people, who bear on their shoulders the burden of all our pain, sorrows and sins. The Tzadikim Nistarim move in obscurity, unnoticed by other men because of their humble nature and vocation. They are usually found among the poor, the downtrodden and the meekest among us, and are chosen for this task because of their righteousness (as in, they strive to do what is right in just in all dealings, with all peoples and creatures, quietly and without glory or praise), stalwart sense of genuine justice, and the true goodness of their souls. It's not that they're perfect, or have never experienced evil urges, but you don't have to be perfect to be one of the Good Guys. They justify humanity's imperfect existence to God, they prevent the world's destruction by showing that even though humanity may be imperfect, it is still capable of such great things, such grace and charity, that it does not need to be perfect to be good or worth keeping around. As such, they are closer So long as the Tzadikim Nistarim serves humanity, the world will continue to plod on, and when one dies, God will find another to take their place. But should God be unable to find another worthy soul, the world will be destroyed. It is said that if any one of them are ever made aware of just what they are, they will most likely die. However, when danger appears, when there is great peril, they can reveal their power to overcome it, before slipping back into anonymity.
Stats on Sookie Stackhouse (sans Bill's rabies, as best I can figure)
Humble vocation – Yes
Neighbors don't recognize her awesomeness – Yes (her friends may see it, but the average BT resident does not)
Amongst the poor and downtrodden – Yes
Tries to do what is right and just – Yes
Has a sense of genuine justice – Yes
Good – Yes
Takes on the burden of other people's shit – Yes
Breaks out her power when their is great peril (especially to other people) – Yes
Kept in the dark about her own story – YES
OH! And before I forget, in addition to the Hidden 36, there can also be 36 Revealed Tzadikim (revealed to themselves, if not the world). This is another aspect of the repeating symbolic pattern in the Torah of the revealed world/hidden world. Other aspects include the halachah/Kabbalah (law/esoterica) and the battle between the Behemoth and the Leviathan (beast of dry earth 'revealed land' vs the beast of the sea 'concealed land'…and holy shit Bill = Behemoth, Eric = Leviathan in so many way). Together they combine to form the 72 Bridges, which corresponds to the 72 names of God (the Shemhamphorasch), the 72 Demons of Solomon, the 72 Angels to thwart them, they correspond to Tarot cards (in some way I'm too smooth-brained to get a handle on).
(I think I've mentioned this before, but while Solomon controlled his demons with a ring, he stored them in a bronze vessel, kind of like a Biblical Pokeball. You can see images of it from The Lesser Key of Solomon HERE just click on the Eyes of Ra. Something resembling that appears in Sookie's living room post-Bill draining. Bronze can look very brassy depending on the ration of shit in it.
I only mention it because Bill glances at it a couple times during the werewolf cleaning, and also when he came to tell Sookie he killed Eric in 03x12.
Oh, and Solomon's demon-filled bronze Pokeball inspired folktales of a powerful djinn trapped in the magical metal lamp.)
There are three levels of Tzadikim
1. A "complete tzadik" (tzadik gamur) who not only vanquishes in full his innate evil inclination, but even transforms it into good (for which reason he is referred to as tzadik v'tov lo," a tzadik who possesses only good). (sounds a bit like Godric, wouldn't you agree)
2. An "incomplete tzadik" (tzadik she'eino gamur) who has not yet completed the task of vanquishing his evil inclination, though he has minimized it in essence (for which reason he is called a tzadik v'ra lo," a tzadik who [still] possesses [a bit of] evil).
3. A "relative tzadik" (tzadik b'shem hamushal, or tzadik b'din) whose merits exceed his liabilities.
Some Tzadiks act (on the surface) completely contrary to their nature, so as not to reveal themselves. They pretend to be wicked or hedonistic men, while secretly and anonymously doing good (simply because it is right thing to do). I do not have to say who this should remind you of. And hey, he could be aware of his own Tzadiksim, he is dead after all.
So let's play with the idea that Sookie is a Tzadikim Nistarim. Since Ball takes from all sorts of myths and religions and folklore, we can assume it's not necessarily going to be a literal interpretation of a Tzadik, but rather a vision of a Tzadikim through the warped lens of Alan Ball, an inspiration combined with all sorts of other stuff in a big crazy subversive supernatural mindfuck goulash. Sookie would have to be an incomplete or relative tzadik. I don't doubt that she's still part-fairy, but there's no reason a supe could not also be a Tzadik.
So, we've got this sunshiney little fae…world anchor. She would be full of power, the raw magic of creation, and as such, those with more magic in them (supes) are naturally more drawn to her. There are less than 100 of her kind, possibly as little as three dozen, hidden on a planet of billions, they're constantly changing, even with immortality the chances of being able to ferret out another one is virtually nil. What if one of those supes wanted to harness that power for their own, perhaps they thought they could use it to their own benefit. Or maybe they just want to corrupt that righteousness and goodness for no reason other than the sheer joy of destruction, the thrill of the kill, or they just want to watch the world burn. And what if another supe, possibly another Tzadik, recognized both what Sookie was and what this Malicious Behemoth was doing to her. Naturally, he wants to help, but he can't tell Sookie what's going on, because if she's made aware of what she is, she would likely die. Nor would he be able to act too obviously, lest he reveal his own Tzadikism to the that which would destroy them.
Oh, my. This all fits…eerily well.
It occurs to me that while Sookie is the ultimate TB Grail this doesn't rule out the presence of an actual TB object/s that serve as her parallel. So I think we can still have fun going on a treasure hunt.
Exit, I find your theory fascinating and I love your grasp of obscure esoteric knowledge. I have no doubt AB is aware of this mythology and it does play into it as a deeper layer, but I think the Arthurian legends are more deeply embedded in our psyche's and serve more readily as archetype. As a rune stone, or key to deciphering the story, Arthurian lore is more accessible to more people. That shouldn't stop us from broadening our base of understanding though, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your contributions! Most of the stuff you educate us on, I never would have gone looking for on my own.

OfflineFrom the mouth of MM:
“I think the comic can play a role in exploring areas of the ‘True Blood’ world that the show may not be able to get to,” McMillian said. “Marc [Andreyko] came up with the wonderful idea of Tru Blood bottles getting contaminated with an element that causes vampires to go crazy. Since the bottled blood is the link between vampire/human relations, it’s such a great device to mess with. Tainting that symbolic connection seemed like an apt reflection of where vampire/human relations were left off in Season 3. On another level, the theme of contamination is at play with the main cast of characters. Their lives have been drastically affected since Bill walked into Sookie’s life. Are they themselves tainted? A lot of our characters kick off the series with a longing to return to the way things were before… to reclaim a feeling of lost, perhaps even false, innocence.”
Found on the Vault.

Wow, that's the strongest hint yet from anyone connected with TB that Bill is not what he seems.

OfflineI don't think he is. I think he's been tasked by AB to spill a few strategic truths. In the past he's used Michelle Forbes and DO'H for the same purpose. ALL the good stuff has come only from them, now it's the same with MM. Maybe it's a case of personality types, like AB feels he can trust these particular players with giving us good hints without truly spoiling anything. It's a fine line.
Plus my maiden name is McMullen so he can be my pretend almost-brother.
[I was going to write 'almost-husband' but that would mean I would've had to pretend marry an almost-relative.
Now I'm just being silly.]
