Volume 1, All Together Now
Interview with True Blood Comic Writer David Tischman
*1.5 dropped 11/23
*”The whole idea of good and evil and humanity and people trying to do the right thing and people who don’t care about doing the right thing, that’s where really interesting stories comes from.”
*When Sookie is angry with Eric, she uses his ful name.
*Bill doesn’t use contractions.
*Tara’s always there to cut through the b.s.
*Vol. 1 takes place somewhere in the middle of the second season, between episodes. Sam is comfortable shifting in front of people.
Volume 2
* Michael McMillian, who plays Reverend Steve Newlin on True Blood, will co-author the second graphic novel based on the series. Already writing his own series, Lucid, McMillian is excited to be a part of this offshoot of the TV series as we wait for season 4 to begin in June.
*“We wanted to make this story very vampire-centric, and I’ve always been interested in the larger mythology of this bottled blood, that there’s a corporation behind this. What would happen if they had a PR disaster like the BP oil spill or the contaminated Tylenol pills? When their customer base is vampires, if something went wrong, it would be a huge disaster. What happens if they have to pull bottled blood off the market? What will vampires do?”
*New characters who weren’t in the first series will be introduced in this latest edition: Jessica Hamby, Hoyt Fortenberry, Terry Bellefleur, Arlene Fowler, Jesus Velasquez, and Steve Newlin
*The second series won’t hit stores until Feb. 23, but you can pre-order it now.

EXCLUSIVE: Michael McMillian On ‘True Blood’ Comics, TV Crossovers, And Steve Newlin’s Return

Thanks for the link, MC.
What’s at the heart of the whole mythology is this bottled blood that allows vampires to coexist with humans, so what happens when you take that element and you screw it up? What happens to vampire-human relations at that point? Those are always my favorite stories of the show, and obviously playing Rev. Newlin I lean that way, but I love the stuff that comes down to the politics of vampires and humans.
ROTFL! I didn’t expect MM to so readily identify with SN.
Got an email today that issue #6 has shipped, so I should receive it sometime before the spring thaw.
Just got another e-mail today…issue isx has shipped.
LMFAO!!!
Just a teaser to say issue 6 has arrived, and a summary is in the works. To whet you appetite, Bill’s most shameful memory involves draining a beautiful blond midwife from BT and a disgusted Eric has no tolerance for Bill’s lack of self-control. Straight from the horse’s mouth, hunger is no excuse for killing.
Hmm, now this is interesting. Did Bill actually specify she was blonde? Why would he do that? I can’t help but think of Caroline, who despite being brunette in s3 was originally a blonde in the s1 photo’s and the actress they cast was blonde. The Lady of a plantation often practiced midwifery, witness Mrs. O’Hara in GWTW. Was Bill being sneaky?
Bill didn’t describe her, but in the flashback, she looks very much like Sookie. Her name was Thistle and she delivered Thomas and Sarah. She stumbled on Bill in the woods in 1866 after he ran away from mommy.
Well, technically Caroline also delivered Thomas and Sarah. LOL, I know, I’m pushing it.
That cements it right there for me…..I was planning on getting all of them once the next edition came out (so excited that they’re by Michael McMillian!) but now I’m just going to buy the first set and play catch-up. I dunno why I was so hesitant at first – felt like it was some sort of crass commercialism effort. But I’ve read the latest interviews w/MM and how it’s all sactioned by AB as an extension of the mythology – so I’m sold.
The bound volume of the first 6 issues should be out soon.
Wow…this is a first Renee…I am still waiting for my 6th issue. Usually I get mine in the mail a few days before you do.
I suppose the weather must be to blame because mine didn’t get here any sooner than it usually does.
Ok. I caved. Only because I’m missing all the goings on in BT….she lies to herself, and it’s a long time till June, and this winter sucks. Winey bitch today! Picked up Vol.1 and it wasn’t cheap, grrr. I’ll read it after lunch and probably be po’d that I spent the $$, hopefully not.
Well, I hope you can enjoy it on some level.
I’m still smarting after shelling out big bucks for CH’s video game, Dying for Daylight. The story didn’t even get interesting until chapter 3 and then it ended in a cliff hanger in chapter 4. I won’t be finishing that.
The one and only good thing about it was that it is the first acknowledgement by CH that alchemy is on her radar. The sun potion was made by a vamp named Felix who was an alchemist in his human life. The name Felix often turns up in alchemical stories.
I don’t know what to make of the CB Renee. I wasn’t terribly impressed, but that may be because I don’t have a lot of enthusiasm for the genre. Occasionally I snickered and then I was shaking my head. If the cb’s only serve to point out the absurdity of some characters reactions then for me it’s redundant. Did it add anything to the story overall? I don’t see it at present. Maybe with the input of posters here I’ll get a larger perspective. To sum up, for me it was a waste of time and $$ for now.
I don’t find the medium emotionally satisfying, but I appreciate the additional backstory, the clear subtext, and the comparisions it draws between Bill and Eric.
One of the lessons TB Bill fails to learn from Lorena is that the only way to love a human is to stay away. I wonder if getting involved with the Underground and Rachel taught Eric that lesson.
doesnt that contradict though.. i mean since the vamps have TB & willing Fangbanger’s then staying away from humans seems redundant..
besides, drinking human blood is not really the problem if the vamps dont drain them or kill them for sport.. it’s when the vamps loose self control i guess..
Jessica didnt seem to loose control being around Sookie & her smell.. nor did Jessica loose control when she fed Hoyt her blood..
The clear subtext was the only thing that was important for me. Not that I had many doubts about the differences in the characters.
The backstories didn’t satisfy anything for me. In some ways they could be considered predictable, again to underscore the various characters.
As mentioned about the game, I wonder who the cb’s are aimed at?
Is it a fan base that doesn’t get the subtexts or who?
Next time I’ll read the cb at the store to satisfy any curiosity I may have and save my money.
k, do we have to beg…are you going to spill the story??
I think BG got ‘All Together Now.’ You’re probably going to be the first one to see the new series and I hope you will spill.
I was soooo hopeful I’d get it today, but no such luck.
Have you seen these pages? After reading them, I’m going to have to dig up some fanfiction to scratch my itch.
Osterby, Are you talkin to me? (in my best DeNiro voice)?
Spill which story?
So Bg…how’s the Bear Claw??
Osterby, the bear claw was more satisfying than the CB and no handsome, age appropriate fella (in leathers) to console me….
HAHA, CH has a video game called “Dying for Daylight”???
i wonder if that is why AB gave Sookie’s blood a Daywalking ability??
all the vampire shows on t.v. recently has the vamps walking & being active in the daytime..
“Being Human” on SYFY the vampire can walk in the daytime.
“Vampire Diaries” the vampire’s can walk around in the daytime
“Twilight” the vampire’s can walk around during daylight on cloudy day’s
& now on TB AB has the vamps awake in the daytime & get’s the bleeds & if they drink enough of Sookie’s blood they can go outside in the daytime..
****shake head*****
The game is new. CH got a lot of flack for copying the s3 daywalking idea, but the game was in development way before that.
The art and music are great. The game itself though is a bust. Not sure who their target audience is. It can’t be gamers. It’s way too basic for that, and the story is unsatisfying so I doubt it’ll be a hit with CH fans.
well i’m not buying teh video game.. is it on playstation or XBox 360?? or is it just a computer game??
i think all the latest vampire shows doing the Daywalking theme is stupid.. AB wasent really creative on that idea & making it a Temp. daywalking thing regarding Sookie’s blood is silly IMO.. i mean of course Vamps would be interested in True Fae or Hybirds if they can gain daywalking ability from drinking their blood.. I dont really think that makes vamps evil either.. it’s the survival of the fittest theme in nature… a Lion would eat a human in the wild because he can.. Hunter’s kill animals for survival & use their fur for warmth..
so since vamps could drink True Fae or Hybird blood & be able to see the sun agian & it’s Temp. of course they would hunt them down…
i personally think CH talks to much to AB regarding her plans fofr furture novles & she might have told him about the video game & so he planed to create Sookie’s blood the daywalking tool on the show since he took out / or cut the Database that Billy had in the books..
The game is set in the TB world, but Dahlia is the protagonist, since AB doesn’t have rights to her.
I don’t remember her in ATD at Rhodes, but I think she was supposed to be there. Do you?
http://www.dyingfordaylight.com/
yes she was there in Rhodes..
remember in DAG Sookie asked Eric how “Dahlia” was doing & Eric told her she was healing.. & then Dahlia brought Sookie some news in DAG about the money Felipe owed to her since he took over QSA’s Queendom ( & she owed Sookie money for going to Rhodes)..
so Dahlia was in Rhodes & got injured in ATD from the hotel bombing.. but in FDTW Sookie didnt get all that info till DAG..
Thanks for jogging my memory!
Your welcome..
you know i didnt know that AB didnt have RIGHTS to all the character’s… till you just said that..
maybe that is why AB is writing over certain character’s??
I heard that HBO only bought books 1-7, but I’ve never been able to find conformation of that. With Dahlia being in ATD and not belonging to them, though, it looks like that is the case.
I guess Rhodes won’t be happening.
IDK about Rhodes.. i always figured that AB would stretch out TB for the Rhodes season because he made a statement that he “Looks forwrad to blowing up a hotel”.. so i took s7 as being the final season of TB..
maybe AB will blow up a Hotel in s6?? s6 = book 13 ( the final book from CH)..
but for AB to blow up the Hotel in s6 then alot of stuff will be cut in s4 & s5 that was book related because we only get 12 episodes per season.. if AB brings Quinn in the picture in s5 & Sookie starts dating him in that season & having sex with him in that season ( after her fling with AE from s4) then maybe AB will leave out Quinn’s fall from grace?? or he will make it occur faster then it did in the books??
either way if AB is going to blow up a hotel i think show Sookie will know where everyone’s room is vs. she didnt know where Bill’s room was in ATD..
in DAG Sookie asked Eric about Mr. C & Dahlia.. because that was the book when she got to talk about Rhodes to Eric.. Mr. C isnot on TB either & i dont expect him to show up.. he was QSA’s Lawyer in the books..
TB could easily cut out DAAD or merge it with DD.
I wonder if TB has rights to CH’s short stories, too. I was just reading ‘Tacky’ (Dahlia’s first SS), and the engagement party in a werebar certainly sounded familiar.
Right Renee,
AB might merge DAAD with DD ..i guess it all depends on if AB is going to include Quinn as a Lover .. i mean the majority of DAAD plot was about Charles ( The hit man that Hot Rain sent) showing up to kill Sookie because Eric staked Long Shadow.. & then the rest of the plot was were animal related.. ( The pack master contest between Alcides dad & Patrick, & Sookie meets Quinn & Jason got accused for trying to kill Calvin) ect..ect..ect.. then in DD Bill travels with Sookie to NOLA & she finds out through Bill & Mr. C that Hadley died.. Jake P attacks Sookie & Amelia at Hadley’s old apartment..
so i think it’s easy to see what will get cut & merged togather in s5 & s6 if the show is going to a s7.. if the show is only going to s6 then AB might wrap everything up in s6..
s5 plot is going to Billy since he staked Long Shadow in s1.. then Eric might tell Sookie about Hadley’s death since AB has them blood bond is my guess..
Bill is the lead male on the show that is why AB gave him all of Eric’s deed from the books.. plus now with the added addition of Bill gaining some power position in s4.. not sure if that means AB plans to kill Eric out in the end?? maybe he makes a scarafice or something??
Well I kinda don’t like the fact that the new vamps can function (even in a limited) capacity during the daytime. It’s like one the advatanges that the humans have is the daytime. To take that away would mean the vamps were indeed supreme!
I felt that way about inviting vampires into the house. There are so many ways to get around it on TB that it is completely meaningless. It just lulls humans into a false sense of security, if that.
There are ways for the vampire’s to get around “Letting them in a humans house”.. but that actually stayed the same from the books.. ( DITF) was a perfect example of that.. & it does lead the humans to a false security.. in s3 Lorena came in Carolines house it looks like because Bill was already in there.. to speculate further, because Sookie has recinded Bill’s invite in s3 finale & yet Jessica still has ability to enter..
Basically the vamps will do harm if they seek to do so.. they are supreme to the humans.. but they have weakness just as Humnas do as well..
Yay, I received All Together Now yesterday – I waited for the collection as this is an UK import and not so expensive over here. I loved it when Sookie screams “Beel” and Eric tells Ted he’ll get used to it. ROFL
I find it interesting that Ted thinks “It’s true. There’s something different about this vampire.” when Bill arrives. Now I’m wondering if Bill indeed has some really special powers up his sleeve. Why else would a creature like Ted have heard of Beel before?
I’m really looking forward to your reviews of the next installment as I will be waiting for quite a long time again until I’ll have it myself.
I was rereading vol. 1 the other day, and Ted recognition of Bill’s uniqueness really stood out. There is definitely something behind that remark.
You know another thing that bothered me was that Bill was so reluctant telling his story. OK, he killed Thistle but then again he was young and inexperienced and Sookie wasb quick in forgiving him anyway – yeah yeah, again it was Lorena’s fault…*snort*…
Anyway I had to think about the daywalking theories and had the idea that Bill might have just bought time because he did not really had to fear the sunlight opposed to Eric? Wouldn’t it be convenient to get rid off the sheriff that way but then again he would have revealed his secret. Just a thought as I don’t understand what made Bill hesitate.
I got the notification yesterday that issue #3 is making its way to me on the backs of half a dozen snails.
In the mean time, here’s a preview. Eric flirts with Lala. Squee.
